Job Summary
We are seeking a dynamic and highly organized Demolition Manager to lead and oversee commercial, industrial, and institutional demolition projects from inception to completion. In this pivotal role, you will coordinate all aspects of demolition operations, including project planning, site supervision, equipment, subcontractors, scheduling, budgeting, and safety compliance.
You will work closely with project managers, consultants, engineers, clients, municipalities, and internal project teams to ensure projects are completed safely, efficiently, on schedule, and within budget.
Key Responsibilities
- Manage commercial, institutional, and industrial demolition projects from mobilization through final completion.
- Develop comprehensive demolition plans by reviewing blueprints, demolition drawings, structural drawings, engineering reports, and project specifications.
- Plan demolition sequencing, logistics, manpower requirements, equipment allocation, and project schedules.
- Supervise demolition crews, subcontractors, operators, truck drivers, and suppliers.
- Coordinate trucking, haulage, recycling, waste removal, and disposal operations.
- Conduct site assessments to identify structural hazards and implement safe demolition procedures.
- Ensure compliance with Ontario Occupational Health & Safety regulations, environmental requirements, and company safety policies.
- Lead daily toolbox talks and safety meetings.
- Coordinate with project managers, engineers, architects, consultants, utility companies, municipalities, and clients throughout each project.
- Monitor project budgets, production rates, schedules, labour productivity, and equipment utilization.
- Prepare daily reports, progress updates, production tracking, and project documentation.
- Resolve field issues while maintaining project timelines and profitability.
- Manage procurement of demolition equipment, materials, and subcontractor services.
Required Qualifications
- Minimum 3 years' experience managing commercial demolition projects.
- Proven experience managing commercial, industrial, or institutional demolition projects.
- Extensive experience operating or supervising 20–30 tonne excavators used for structural demolition.
- Strong knowledge of demolition sequencing, structural stability, and safe demolition practices.
- Experience managing demolition crews, subcontractors, trucking, and heavy equipment.
- Strong ability to read construction drawings, demolition plans, engineering documents, and project specifications.
- Excellent leadership, communication, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
- Experience managing multiple projects simultaneously.
- Strong understanding of construction estimating, scheduling, budgeting, and project coordination.
- Valid Ontario Class G Driver's Licence.
- Knowledge of Ontario Occupational Health & Safety legislation.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with concrete, masonry, structural steel, and selective demolition.
- Experience with complete building demolition and structural dismantling.
- Experience with demolition estimating and tendering.
- Experience using project management software such as Procore, Bluebeam, Primavera P6, Microsoft Project, or similar platforms.
- Heavy equipment certifications.
- Working at Heights certification.
- First Aid/CPR certification.
