Instructor for Course ARCH 303 / Design and Construction 1 .
Calendar Description:
An exploration of the design of buildings. Projects emphasize the major
social, technological, environmental, and symbolic aspects of the design process. Introduction to specific modelling, presentation, and documentation techniques. Discussions, readings, field trips and practical exercises.

Topic and themes:
Design of low-rise multi-family housing complex that explores integration of
social aspects, communal features, affordability and sustainability aspects. The project begins with precedent studies and design theory (A1) which is covered through lectures by the instructors. A5 & A6 , program, site analysis, form the basis of a design proposal and urban design (A6). A7
detail design and A8 documentation (i.e., drawings, models) are required for the presentations and the assessments (i.e. midterm and final reviews).
TQR:
M. Arch. or equivalent (first professional degree); Professional practice and/or postsecondary teaching experience in architecture; Appropriate technical, digital and/or critical, theoretical expertise for the course; active in the profession.
Coordination:
Please note that to better coordinate and manage student workload, instructors will be expected to work closely with colleagues and administration ahead of the semester to confirm scope, schedule, methods of evaluations and assignments. Deadlines will be finalized with the larger team and following conversations regarding space availability and technical support.
Please note:
This studio will be team taught which means that multiple instructors will be assigned to teach this course. Instructors may work with an assigned section or multiple different groups of students as arranged by the coordinator. The instructors will follow a course outline for the same
site selected and prepared by the coordinator.
Appointment is from August 31 to December 31, 2026.
6 credits. Salary $17,800.
