Established in 1963, Strescon Limited has grown to become the largest precast, pre-stressed concrete manufacturer in Eastern Canada. Its primary market covers the Atlantic Provinces, the New England region of the United States, and Bermuda. Strescon manufactures a wide range of both architectural and structural precast/prestressed concrete products including bridge girders, wall panels, complete parking garages, hollow-core planking, piling and deck slabs. Strescon presently has two facilities: 70,000 sq. ft. in Saint John, New Brunswick and 50,000 sq. ft. In Bedford, Nova Scotia.
Job Summary
In addition to our engineered precast facilities for custom components, Strescon also operates a 32,000 sq. ft. facility in Saint John which manufactures standard concrete products for engineered drainage systems, such as pipe, manholes and catch basins. This position is responsible for leading the Estimating team. As a working manager, the Estimating Manager will assist in the preparation of estimates; gathering and evaluating proposals, reviewing drawings, specifications and other related documents to bid on work in the precast/prestressed industry. The Estimating Manager will compute bids by analyzing labor, materials and timeline requirements. The position is located at the Saint John Office and supports operations in both Saint John and Bedford.
Responsibilities
Manage and lead direct reports through coaching and development opportunities
Ensure quality and accurate bids per contract per specifications available, on time and on budget
Meet deadlines for project completion with a focus on creating solutions that optimize production and efficiency and/or communicate variations to the deadlines
Maintain estimating procedures, models, scope, and proposal templates and / or improve where applicable
Prepare and review bid documents for submission by ensuring scope of work and estimators work are accurate
Prepare materials take-off and estimates
Utilize software to manage data and facilitate effective retrieval of information
Assist project management by preparing estimates for change notices
Maintain professional relationships with sub-contractors and vendors in the market area with a focus on exceptional customer satisfaction, quality, safety, and value-added services
Communicate and collaborate effectively with team, Sales, Operations, Engineering, Field, Purchasing and Finance

Technical Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree or college diploma within Engineering / Engineering Technology, or similar field
Experience in the construction/concrete industry
5 plus years of estimating experience
Experience managing a team
High Capacity related to reading and interpreting Architectural, Structural, Civil and Precast shop drawings
High capacity related to reading and interpret technical specifications
Precast Prestressed Concrete Experience is an asset
Experience with BIM software is an asset
Familiarity with OBC, NBC, CSA standards is an asset
Business Requirements :
Proficiency in Microsoft Word and Excel software applications
Technologically inclined; experience with software, data and reports is an asset
Ability to assume responsibility, interface and communicate effectively with others and demonstrate strong interpersonal skills
Exceptional time management and organizational skills
Desire to work in a fast-paced, deadline-driven and customer-focused environment
