Cambrian College’s Douglas A. Smith Family School of Business and Interdisciplinary Studies is seeking a casual Course Developer to support the development of teaching and learning materials for the SOC3901 Cultural Theory and Criticism course.
In this course, students will explore the ideas and perspective of several important cultural critics and theorists. Students will be asked to decode, discuss, and analyze the concepts, components, and characteristics of culture. They will apply the dominant theories and methods used in cultural studies – such as materialism, semiotics, feminism, post-colonialism, and post-structuralism - and examine how culture acts on individuals in a society, how it is produced, and where it is located. How does our culture shape our understanding of space and time? Of what we deem normal or abnormal? Of gender and race? Or work and leisure? By reading primary theoretical sources and through the use of interactive methods, students will examine how human activities are influenced by different social and cultural forces.
Working collaboratively with the Academic Dean, the Course Developer will prepare course syllabi, learning activities, content modules, assessments, and related materials to support high-quality course delivery.
