Purpose of the Supportive Roommate
The Supportive Roommate lives in a semi-independent transitional home that provides support to clients aged 16-24, who are currently experiencing, or are at risk of, homelessness. Under the foyer model, the supportive roommate provides live in assistance and case management to clients in areas such as life skills building and healthy relationship modeling.
This Full Time position offers a private room with attached en-suite in the home. The successful candidate will be required to pay rent at a subsidized rate (utilities will be included).
Responsibilities
Client Relations
-
Develop positive and supportive relationships with each of the youth in the program.
-
Be a positive role model within the home.
-
Be present in the program when youth are home, remain in the house and be available evenings as required to support the youth in the program.

Maintain contact with the youth daily and be aware of their whereabouts.
-
Assist the youth in developing their communication, emotional regulation, and problem-solving skills.
Case Management, Program Maintenance and Administration
-
Assist clients with case management and the development of life skills, including areas such as housing/tenancy, cooking, cleaning, budgeting, employment readiness, education, and conflict resolution.
-
Complete all documentation for clients, including Intake Package, Incident Reports, Case Notes, Goal Plans, and Discharge Package.

Assist clients in building and maintaining relationships with natural supports, including things such as boundary development, managing conflict, and improving their conflict resolution skills.
-
Assist clients in navigating the appropriate systems, including Healthcare, Income Support, Rent Subsidy, etc.
-
Navigate referral processes to ensure that clients are able to access Queer safe, Indigenous safe, and any other Cultural Supports as needed.
-
Support in reducing barriers to accessing services and stigmas associated with systems navigations.
-
Meet all deadlines as assigned to the CAC Accreditation Standards.
-
Maintain the household by supporting the housing worker with facilitating house meetings, coordinating and planning weekly recreation activities, and assigning weekly chores to clients.

Light to moderate lifting to support youth with their move ins and outs if they are occurring while you are staying in the home.

Communication with Trellis On-Call support in the event of a crisis.

Knowledge & Experience Expectations
-
A degree or other post-secondary education in a Human Services field (e.g., Child & Youth Care, Social Work, Justice Studies, etc.) Equivalencies will be considered based on experience.

Knowledge and understanding of the Housing First for Youth & Recovery Oriented Approaches.
-
Flexible work hours (evenings and weekends as applicable to the needs of the program)
-
Valid Driver’s License, current Driver’s Abstract, and reliable vehicle with 2-million-dollar liability insurance
-
Standard First Aid/CPR (to be completed within 30 days of the start of employment)

Successful candidate must have a clear Police Check including Vulnerable Sector Check, and a Child Intervention Record Check
Reporting Relationship
This position reports to a Trellis Program Manager.
