The Elders Knowledge Circle Society (EKCS) is an Indigenous-led non-profit dedicated to gathering, protecting and sharing Indigenous Traditional Knowledge to ensure the survival of language, culture and heritage for future generations. Guided by Elders/Grandparents and rooted in values of community, respect, sustainability and spirituality, EKCS creates intentional spaces for intergenerational learning, ceremony and knowledge transfer. Our vision is to be a trusted steward of Indigenous knowledge, supporting cultural revitalization, reconciliation and the empowerment of future generations.
Primary Purpose of the Position
EKCS is seeking a Project Coordinator to support the implementation of several funded initiatives. The Coordinator will work closely with the Elders to ensure projects are delivered in a good way, maintaining alignment with Indigenous governance, community priorities and funder commitments.
This is a one-year full-time contract position that is primarily remote, offering flexible work arrangements. The successful candidate will be expected to attend and support in-person gatherings, meetings, circles, and community events throughout the year as required.
Key Duties and ResponsibilitiesProgram Coordination – 40%
- Support planning, scheduling and coordination of project activities across multiple EKCS initiatives.
- Liaise with Elders/Grandparents, Knowledge Keepers and partners to ensure project activities reflect community direction.
- Assist with organizing circles, workshops and gatherings, including logistics materials, and hospitality.
- Ensure all program activities align with EKCS values and cultural protocols.
Administration & Reporting – 25%
- Support tracking and documentation of project progress, outcomes and participation.
- Assist with preparing interim and final funder reports and maintaining accurate project files.
- Support internal administrative systems (record-keeping, scheduling, communications).
- Coordinate invoices, honoraria and reimbursements in accordance with EKCS policies.
Community & Partner Engagement – 20%
- Maintain positive, respectful communication with community members, Elders/Grandparents and project partners.
- Support the facilitation of learning circles and community meetings.
- Represent EKCS with professionalism and cultural humility at partner meetings and community events.
Monitoring & Evaluation – 15%
- Assist with collecting and summarizing feedback, attendance and evaluation data using both Western and Indigenous ways of knowing.
- Contribute to storytelling, photo documentation and other creative reporting tools that honour community voice.
- Support knowledge-sharing activities, ensuring cultural and data governance practices are upheld.
Core Competencies
- Demonstrated experience in project or event coordination within Indigenous or community contexts.
- Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
- Experience working with Elders/Grandparents and understanding of cultural protocols.
- Excellent communication, facilitation and relationship-building abilities.
- Understanding of Indigenous and Western knowledge systems and ability to navigate both respectfully.
- Adaptable, dependable and able to manage shifting priorities in a fast-paced environment.
- Grounded in approaches of decolonization, reconciliation, anti-racism and cultural safety.
