Job Summary
Good Time Greens is seeking a dedicated Farm Labourer to execute the day-to-day operations in our fields. This role demands a strong focus on speed, accuracy, and efficiency to ensure that field preparation, planting, and harvesting move smoothly. You will be an essential part of producing high-quality, organic, ready-to-eat greens for the local market. This position is ideal for an agriculture student who wants hands-on experience or existing farm workers.
Key Responsibilities
Field Operations & Harvesting
● Prepare fields, assist with plantings, and arrange/manage irrigation systems.
● Monitor crops for in-field pest pressure.
● Harvest greens using a quick-cut greens harvester and drill.
● Execute harvests and efficiently move products to preserve quality and shelf life.
Produce Sanitation & Drying
● Safely handle sanitizing agents (SaniDate 5.0) using required PPE (gloves, safety glasses) to mix wash solutions.
● Process greens through primary wash and secondary rinse bins.
● Operate basket dryers and fans to properly dry the produce prior to packing.
Packing & Quality Control
● Weigh and package greens into 5 oz containers or 48 oz bags based on customer order.
● Perform quality control by inspecting produce for weeds, insects, dirt, broken leaves, miscolouration, and rot.
● Accurately apply product labels and specific best-before date stamps for various crops.
Equipment & Tool Management
● Clean, sanitize, and manage all harvesting tools, wash bins, and packing tables according to strict sanitation schedules.
● Properly store all equipment and maintain a tidy workspace.
Required Skills & Qualifications
● Physical Stamina & Strength: Comfort working with farm equipment, performing repetitive physical tasks (harvesting, washing, spinning, packing), and the ability to lift up to 50 lbs.
● Transportation: Must have reliable personal transportation to commute to the farm.
● Efficiency & Precision: Ability to work quickly while maintaining high accuracy and attention to detail.
● Quality Assurance: Strong observational skills to monitor product quality and reject produce that does not meet high standards.
● Process-Oriented: Ability to learn, memorize, and strictly adhere to Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) for harvesting, sanitation, and packing.
● Safety Conscious: Willingness to comply with Occupational Health and Safety rules, including training and consistent use of PPE.
Preferred Qualifications (A Plus)
● Education: Enrollment in or completion of a post-secondary certificate, diploma, or undergraduate degree in agriculture or related sciences.
● Organic & Botanical Knowledge: A working knowledge of organic agricultural systems and strong plant identification skills are considered a major asset.
