Administrative Support 2 (AS2) - Lifeguard (Safety Ambassador)
Based on 40 hours per week: $23.79 - $26.76 per hour
Administrative Support 3 (AS3) - Aquatic Safety (Lifeguard) Crew Lead
Based on 40 hours per week: $23.28 - $29.46 per hour

In addition to regular wages, regular Wage employees receive 11.6% in lieu of benefits and vacation leave:

5.6 percent of regular wage earnings instead of paid holidays
6 percent of regular wage earnings instead of annual vacation pay

In addition to the regular wages and the additional pay in lieu of benefits and vacation, regular wage employees are entitled to shift premium pay:

$3.25 per hour for weekends and holidays
$2.75 per hour for evenings

Fish Creek Provincial Park, located in Calgary, is one of the largest urban protected areas in Canada and is enjoyed by millions of visitors annually.

The park is home to the Sikome Aquatic Facility, a popular outdoor recreation swimming area that includes a large artificial lake with treated water, sand beach, a small concession and beach retail shop. A dedicated team of Safety Ambassadors and Visitor Service Attendants provide outstanding service to Sikome visitors.

Role Responsibilities

For summer 2026, we are seeking individuals who have a passion for people and enjoy working in a fast-paced environment to join our team in our Sikome Aquatic Facility. If you are a certified Lifeguard and looking for summer employment, apply today!

We are currently looking to hire:

17 Safety Ambassadors
3 Aquatic Safety Crew Leads

As a Lifeguard (Safety Ambassador), duties and responsibilities include:

Provide safety supervision and education to visitors by monitoring water and waterfront on foot, from elevated platforms and on paddleboards.
Perform water rescues, respond to emergency situations and administer First Aid as required.
Monitor visitor activity within fence lines and washrooms to ensure compliance with conditions of use and safety requirements.
Provide crowd control when it is necessary to clear the facility as a result of severe weather events, emergencies, locating lost children, etc.
Perform daily opening and closing duties which include but are not limited to setting up and tearing down work areas, securing and cleaning equipment, restocking supplies, clearing the facility of patrons, locking facility gates, showers and bathrooms.
Cover gate and admissions shifts if required.
Performing light maintenance and janitorial duties is required. This includes but is not limited to daily cleaning staff bathrooms and work areas, daily checks and tidying of public washrooms, sweeping deck areas, picking up garbage and debris on the beach.

Continued Role Responsibilities

As an Aquatic Safety Crew Lead, duties and responsibilities include:

Perform all Lifeguard (Safety Ambassador) duties listed above.
Working weekly scheduled shifts in the Lifeguard rotation is required.
Perform administrative and supervisory duties which include but are not limited to:

o Prepare facility for seasonal opening.
o Assist with hiring, staff orientations, training and competency evaluations.
o Manage day to day workflow and priorities.
o Daily supervision of Safety Ambassadors in all aspects of job performance and operational requirements including staff scheduling, performance coaching, mentoring and conducting performance reviews
o Assisting staff with access to required systems.
o Provide supervision coverage to Visitor Service Attendants in absence of a Visitor Service Attendant Crew Lead.
o Perform required Occupational Health & Safety (OHS) requirements such as completion of monthly facility and vehicle inspections, update safe work procedures, hazard assessments and emergency procedures, staff training, incident reporting, WCB reporting, etc.
o Assist facility staff with visitor complaint/conflict resolution.
o Order, pickup and maintain inventory for required equipment, print materials, and first aid supplies.
o Enter and maintain employee records (training, performance, attendance records, payroll information etc.) into appropriate systems.
o Maintain facility statistics and daily reports.
o Cover breaks and vacant shifts as required.
o Prepare facility for seasonal closing.
o Assist supervisor with other tasks as assigned.

Qualifications

Education and Experience required:

Lifeguard (Safety Ambassador) – Administrative Support 2 (AS2)

High school diploma
Preferred experience - Minimum of 12 months (2000 hours) lifeguard experience with preference for waterfront experience.
Must be 18 years of age on or before June 15.

Equivalency:

Directly related experience may be considered on the basis of one year of experience for one year of education.

Aquatic Safety (Lifeguard) Crew Lead – Administrative Support 3 (AS3):

High School Diploma and minimum of 12 months (2000 hours) of supervisory experience with preference for supervisory experience in an aquatic environment.
Preferred experience - Minimum of 2 years (4000 hours) lifeguard experience with preference for waterfront lifeguard experience.
Alberta Class 5 (Full) Driver’s License or equivalent.
Final Candidates will be required to provide a standard 3-year Driver’s Abstract prior to commencement.
Must be 18 years of age.

Equivalency:

Directly related experience or education considered on the basis of one year of experience for one year of education OR one year of education for one year of experience.

Additional Assets to be successful in either role:

Exceptional communication skills and comfort level in dealing with difficult customer interactions or complaints.
Excellent English verbal and written communication skills and comfort dealing with people from diverse backgrounds.
Demonstrated ability to work effectively in a busy facility type environment and remain composed and calm in stressful or emergency situations.
Proficiency with Microsoft Outlook, Word and Excel.
Basic knowledge of Fish Creek Provincial Park amenities.
Good listening and conflict resolution skills.
Fluent in languages other than English.

Continued Qualifications

Certifications for both roles:

National Lifeguard-Pool or National Lifeguard-Waterfront Certification (current within two years).
Prior to hire, recognized current intermediate Standard First Aid and CPR Level “C”/AED Certificate or CPR-HCP/AED (current certification within 1 year) will be needed.
Prior to hire, proof of WHMIS training completion will be required.

Safety Ambassadors and Aquatic Safety Crew Leads may encounter emotionally challenging situations, participate in conflict resolution, interact with irritated or difficult visitors or provide support during emergency events or incidents. Applicants should be prepared to manage these circumstances with composure, sound judgement, and effective communications skills. Approximate start dates:
For the Lifeguards (Safety Ambassador) role:

Mid June – mandatory site orientation and training.
Late June – scheduled shifts begin. End dates vary from mid August to September (Labour Day).

For the Aquatic Safety (Lifeguard) Crew Lead role:

Position start dates vary (1 position – early May, 2 positions – late May).
Position end dates vary (2 positions late August, 1 position - early September).

Terms of Employment

You have the opportunity to work up to 40 hours per week and will be paid for the number of hours worked. STAFFING NEEDS ARE IMPACTED BY WEATHER AND LOW VISITOR ATTENDANCE. SCHEDULED HOURS ARE NOT GUARANTEED.
All positions require you to work various shifts including most evenings, both weekend days and holidays.
Staff must be available to work a minimum of 4 shifts per week. Shifts could be up to 10 hours in length and are scheduled between 9:30 a.m. to 8 p.m.
Schedules will be assigned.
There is no opportunity to take extended time off during the 9 weeks of operation.
Wearing a uniform is required.
