Overview
Under the direction of the Director and Lead Teacher, a Preschool Classroom Assistant is responsible for assisting in the overall supervision, safety and welfare of a group of preschool children. The classroom assistant will work cooperatively with the lead teacher and other classroom assistants to discuss and aide in the implementation of daily plans. This position would start after September Long weekend, working in a preschool classroom. Monday-Thursday morning (8:30-11:30) and Tuesday Thursday afternoon (12:15-3:15.
Responsibilities
- Maintain a clean, safe, and organized environment for children to learn and grow, to promote trust and security for children.
- Assist in the supervision of the classroom, daily routines and all activities.
- To be involved and interact with the children through playful developmentally appropriate activities and maintain appropriate standards for children’s discipline and behaviour.
- Interacting with parents when necessary or referring appropriate questions and concerns to the Lead Teacher
- Maintain communication and teamwork with the Lead Teacher and other staff members.
- Work as an efficient teaching team in all activities, including but no limited to: record keeping, daily preparation, housekeeping, toileting, classroom management
- Collaborate and continue to develop best practices by attending staff meetings and professional development opportunities.
- Complete any other tasks or duties assigned by the Discovery Nursery School Lead Teacher
Skills
- Strong communication skills to effectively interact with children, teachers, and parents.
- Knowledge of early childhood education principles and practices.
- Experience working with children in a classroom or educational setting is preferred.
- Ability to educate young learners through engaging activities and hands-on experiences.
- Patience, empathy, and a genuine love for working with children.
- Strong organizational skills to help maintain an orderly classroom environment.
Qualifications
- Level 1, 2 or 3 in Early Childhood Education, wage top up available above posted wage depending on your certification
- Previous preschool or early childhood classroom experience
- Up to date Criminal Record Check with Vulnerable Sector Check (within 8 weeks of starting)
- Up to date First Aid in Child Care
