Nokiiwin Tribal Council is seeking a dynamic, experienced, and culturally grounded Education Manager to provide strategic leadership, coordination, and support for education initiatives that enhance educational outcomes and opportunities for First Nation communities, students, and families. The Education Manager will oversee education programs and services, support the development of Regional and Local Education Agreements, foster strong partnerships with communities and stakeholders, and champion the revitalization and integration of Anishinaabemowin language and Anishinaabe culture within education programming. The successful candidate will demonstrate strong leadership, relationship-building, program management, and communication skills, along with a commitment to First Nation self-determination, community-driven education, and culturally responsive approaches that support student success and lifelong learning
Key Responsibilities:
- Provide leadership and supervision to education staff, including coaching, performance management, and professional development.
- Oversee the planning, implementation, and evaluation of education programs and initiatives, ensuring alignment with organizational priorities and community needs.
- Manage education program budgets, funding requirements, and reporting obligations to ensure accountability and compliance.
- Lead and support the development, negotiation, implementation, and monitoring of Regional Education Agreements (REAs) and Local Education Agreements (LEAs).
- Work directly with First Nations communities to identify education priorities, goals, and strategies that support student achievement and lifelong learning.
- Promote and support the integration of Anishinaabemowin language and Anishinaabe culture within education programs, initiatives, and community activities.
- Build and maintain collaborative relationships with First Nation leadership, education authorities, school boards, post-secondary institutions, and government partners.
- Represent the organization at meetings, committees, conferences, and regional education forums, advocating for First Nation education priorities.
- Develop annual work plans, strategic recommendations, reports, and presentations for leadership and governance bodies.
- Monitor education policies, funding opportunities, and emerging trends, providing advice and support to leadership and member First Nations.
Anishinaabemowin Language and Cultural Revitalization
- Support the integration of Anishinaabemowin language and Anishinaabe culture throughout education programs, services, and community initiatives.
- Collaborate with First Nations leadership, Elders, language keepers, and cultural knowledge holders to identify language and cultural priorities.
- Develop and implement language revitalization initiatives that promote Anishinaabemowin learning for students, families, and communities.
- Support the creation of culturally relevant educational resources, curriculum supports, and programming materials.
- Advocate for the inclusion of Anishinaabemowin language and cultural teachings within Regional Education Agreements (REAs), Local Education Agreements (LEAs), and educational partnerships.
- Establish and maintain effective relationships with organizations, institutions, and community partners involved in language and cultural revitalization efforts.
- Identify and pursue funding opportunities that support language revitalization, cultural programming, and community-based learning initiatives.
- Promote the incorporation of Anishinaabe teachings, values, traditions, and protocols into education program design and delivery.
- Support community events, workshops, gatherings, and educational activities that celebrate and strengthen Anishinaabemowin language and Anishinaabe culture.
- Monitor and evaluate the effectiveness of language and cultural initiatives, providing recommendations for continuous improvement and long-term sustainability.
Qualifications and Skills:
- Post-secondary degree or diploma in Education, Indigenous Education, Education Administration, Business Administration, Social Sciences, or a related field.
- 3 to 5 years of progressive experience in education, First Nation education, program management, or a related field.
- Demonstrated leadership and staff supervision experience, including team development and performance management.
- Strong program and project management skills, including planning, implementation, evaluation, and reporting.
- Knowledge of First Nation education systems, priorities, and issues, including a commitment to First Nation control of education.
- Experience developing partnerships and negotiating agreements with diverse stakeholders and organizations.
- Excellent communication, facilitation, and relationship-building skills, with the ability to engage communities and partners effectively.
- Strong organizational, analytical, and problem-solving abilities, with the capacity to manage multiple priorities.
- Financial and budget management experience, including oversight of funded programs and reporting requirements.
- Knowledge of Anishinaabemowin language and Anishinaabe culture or demonstrated cultural competency working with First Nations communities; fluency in Anishinaabemowin is considered a strong asset.
- Strong cultural competency and commitment to advancing First Nation self-determination in education.
