About the Client:
We are seeking a compassionate and experienced caregiver for Pete, who has been paralyzed and nonverbal since 2015. Despite being nonverbal, Pete is highly intelligent and communicates expressively through gestures, thumbs up/down, head movements, and pointing. He requires full support with all activities of daily living and is incontinent. Pete uses a walker and wheelchair for mobility and occasionally requires a Hoyer Lift for transfers when he is unwell. The family has had wonderful caregivers over the years who have stayed long-term, and they are looking for the right match who will commit to consistency and build a strong relationship with Pete.
Responsibilities:
- Provide full personal care support including bathing, dressing, toileting, and hygiene assistance
- Prepare and serve meals with full feeding support as needed
- Administer medication reminders and assistance
- Perform safe transfers using proper techniques and Hoyer Lift when required
- Assist with mobility using walker and wheelchair
- Provide cognitive supervision for safety
- Light housekeeping and tidying
- Occasional transportation for errands or appointments
- Accompany Pete to hospital visits when necessary and provide care during hospital stays
- Communicate patiently and learn Pete's unique communication style
What We're Looking For:
- Valid PSW certificate (required)
- Vulnerable Sector Police Check (required)
- CPR certification (required)
- Liability insurance (required)
- Minimum 5 years of experience in complex care
- Proven experience with Hoyer Lift transfers and safe transfer techniques
- Own reliable vehicle for transportation
- Excellent communication skills and patience to understand nonverbal communication
- Ability to recognize and respect Pete's intelligence and independence
- Calm, positive, and reliable demeanor
- Willingness to take initiative and adapt to changing care needs
- Commitment to consistency and long-term placement
- English speaking
Schedule:
Monday: 10:30 AM - 2:30 PM (4 hours) Tuesday: 10:30 AM - 3:30 PM (5 hours) Wednesday: 10:30 AM - 2:30 PM (4 hours) Thursday: 10:30 AM - 2:30 PM (4 hours) Friday: 10:30 AM - 2:30 PM (4 hours)
Total: 21 hours per week
