Assistant Dog Trainer (Part-Time)
Location: North Nanaimo, BC
Pay: $20/hour
Do you love dogs and want to learn more about dog training? Elite Canine is looking for a reliable, motivated person to join our growing team!
This is a great opportunity for someone who enjoys working with dogs and is looking for flexible, part-time work with room to grow. No professional dog training experience is required - we'll teach you everything you need to know.
What You'll Be Doing
- Picking up dogs from our training location
- Walking and caring for dogs in training
- Practicing basic obedience exercises (full training provided)
- Monitoring the dogs and ensuring they're safe and comfortable
- Assisting with day-to-day operations as needed
The work is straightforward and low-stress, with the goal of providing consistent care and reinforcing the training each dog is already receiving.
About the Role
- Part-time (approximately 2–3 hours per day to start)
- Flexible schedule
- Availability at different times throughout the day is required
- Opportunity for additional hours as the business continues to grow
If you're interested in developing your dog training skills and taking on additional responsibilities over time, we'll provide mentorship and hands-on training. There is plenty of opportunity to grow with the business.
We're Looking For Someone Who Is
- Passionate about dogs
- Reliable, punctual, and responsible
- Calm, patient, and confident around dogs
- Comfortable handling dogs of all sizes
- Physically able to walk dogs and spend time outdoors
- Flexible with scheduling
- Eager to learn and grow
Because we specialize in working with dogs with behavioural challenges, you'll occasionally be handling dogs that may bark, pull on leash, or become overly excited during walks. You won't be expected to solve these behaviours on your own - we'll teach you exactly how to handle each dog safely and confidently.
Experience
No previous dog training experience is required. Experience working with dogs is an asset but not necessary - we're looking for the right attitude and willingness to learn.
To Apply
Please submit your resume along with a brief cover letter telling us why you're interested in working with dogs and why you think you'd be a great fit for the role.
Only applications that include a cover letter will be considered.
