The Village Medical is looking for a compassionate, motivated, and patient-focused Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) to join our collaborative family practice team.
Whether you're an experienced LPN or a recent graduate looking to build your skills in primary care, we'd love to hear from you. We believe in creating a supportive environment where our team members are encouraged to learn, grow, and make a meaningful impact on the lives of our patients.
We're looking for someone who is organized, proactive, and enjoys a role that combines both clinical nursing and administrative responsibilities. The ideal candidate is a confident critical thinker who can triage patients appropriately, prioritize competing demands, and provide exceptional patient care while contributing to the smooth day-to-day operation of the clinic.
What You'll Do
As part of our clinical team, you will:
- Welcome patients with professionalism, kindness, and compassion.
- Confidently triage patients, recognizing urgent concerns and communicating effectively with physicians.
- Apply sound clinical judgment and critical thinking to prioritize patient care in a busy family practice environment.
- Obtain and document vital signs, including newborn and pediatric measurements.
- Perform focused nursing assessments and accurately document findings within the EMR.
- Perform urine dipstick testing, pregnancy testing, and specimen collection.
- Assist physicians with minor procedures including biopsies, IUD insertions, laceration repairs, and other office procedures.
- Act as a chaperone during sensitive examinations or procedures when required.
- Prepare examination rooms, procedure trays, and medical equipment.
- Clean, disinfect, sterilize, and maintain reusable medical instruments according to infection prevention and control standards.
- Operate and maintain the clinic autoclave and complete sterilization documentation accurately. Previous autoclave experience is an asset; however, comprehensive training will be provided to the successful candidate.
- Maintain clean, organized, and well-stocked clinical areas.
- Monitor medical supply inventory and assist with ordering supplies.
- Support front desk operations by answering telephone calls, assisting with appointment scheduling, responding to patient inquiries, and helping wherever needed.
- Follow infection prevention, privacy, and clinic safety protocols.
- Identify opportunities to improve clinic efficiency, patient care, and overall workflow.
What We're Looking For
- Active registration and good standing with the College of Licensed Practical Nurses of Alberta (CLPNA).
- Experience in a family practice or outpatient clinic is preferred; however, new graduates are encouraged to apply.
- Excellent critical thinking, assessment, and clinical decision-making skills.
- Ability to confidently triage patients and recognize when concerns require escalation.
- Comfortable balancing both clinical nursing responsibilities and administrative tasks.
- Strong organizational skills with exceptional attention to detail.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Professional, reliable, adaptable, and compassionate.
- Experience using electronic medical records (TELUS Med Access and AVA are considered assets).
- Current CPR and First Aid certification.
- Experience with instrument reprocessing and autoclave operation is considered an asset but not required—training will be provided.
