The Logistics Coordinator, Land and Rail supports the planning and coordination of port operational activities within VFPA’s jurisdiction. Other key responsibilities include information gathering and interpretation, anticipating emerging issues and taking or recommending proactive action. Depending on operational needs, the Logistics Coordinator, Land and Rail provides assistance to the Operations Coordinator. The Logistics Coordinator, Land and Rail assists with projects and initiatives as assigned, with a primary focus in Land and Rail.
What you do:
- Supports the planning and coordination of port operations activities in conformity with port practices and procedures, adopting a holistic approach which encompasses aspects of safety and security and environmental protection.
- Assists with the development and implementation of safety, security operational policies and procedures.
- Assists in the coordination of TLS and road safety and emission audits in conjunction with local police traffic safety initiatives and Commercial Vehicle Safety and Enforcement (CVSE) blitzes.
- Ensures integral support and maintenance of the TLS GPS program.
- Coordinates special events, provides expertise in developing temporary security and safety plans for special events and short-term leases.
- Supports the implementation of safety and security site evaluations to determine gaps and mitigating measures.
- Participates in the development and implementation of training and awareness programs, analyzes incidents and organizes and delivers briefings.
- Coordinates communication with internal and external customers in person on the phone and in writing in response to operational issues. Processes and prioritizes calls depending on operational requirements.
Develops and maintains effective relationships with stakeholders and customers.
- As required, coordinates and attends stakeholder working groups and committees.
- Produces reports, updates and disseminates information as required.
- Gathers and interprets operational intelligence, anticipating emerging issues and taking or recommending proactive action.
Performs other assigned duties as required.
What you bring:
- A certificate in operations, or another acceptable discipline, from a recognized educational institution, along with a minimum of three years’ experience in container/bulk/auto terminal and/or intermodal logistics coordination, along with knowledge of security, safety and emergency issues, measures and requirements.
Must be able to perform analysis of operational data and have good problem solving skills.
- Must be able to work under pressure and demonstrate the ability to use good judgment, make decisions, show initiative and take responsibility for situations when required.
Exhibit the ability to work effectively in teams demonstrating excellent communication and interpersonal skills with internal and external contacts.
A customer service, results orientated approach is required.

- This position is required to provide scheduled vacation and time-off coverage for both of the following positions:
- Logistics Coordinator, Land – Evenings
- Monday to Friday, 3:00 pm to 11:00 pm; and
- Land Logistics Traffic Coordinator
- Tuesday to Saturday, 7:00 am to 3:00 pm

The incumbent must obtain and maintain a valid Marine Transportation Security Clearance as this position is required to access restricted areas/information as defined by the Marine Transportation Security Regulations.
