POSITION SUMMARY
We’re seeking a highly organized and detail-driven Accountant to support financial operations for our Quebec-based construction projects. This role will manage day-to-day accounting activities, including project billing, cost tracking, and subcontractor payment management. The ideal candidate will have hands-on construction industry accounting experience, with strong capabilities in job cost reporting, contract compliance, and financial documentation accuracy.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
- Maintain accurate financial records for active construction projects, including job cost tracking, cost-to-complete updates, and budget variance reporting.
- Prepare and process progress billings, subcontractor pay applications, purchase orders, and vendor invoices in alignment with contract terms.
- Collaborate with Project Managers and Site Teams to ensure cost data integrity and timely processing of field financials.
- Support month-end and year-end closing activities — including journal entries, accruals, and project account reconciliations.
- Review and validate change orders, retainage calculations, and cash flow requirements.
- Coordinate with procurement and project controls to maintain alignment between schedule, cost, and contract obligations.
- Ensure strict compliance with provincial tax requirements, including QST/GST filings and construction accounting regulations.
- Assist with internal and external financial audits, providing documentation and reports as required.
- Support continuous improvement of processes, internal controls, and reporting accuracy.
QUALIFICATIONS & REQUIREMENTS
Education:
Degree or diploma in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, or related discipline.
Experience:
- Minimum 3–5 years of accounting experience within construction or industrial project environments (required).
- Expertise in progress billing, job costing, and subcontract financial administration is essential.
Technical Skills:
- Proficiency with construction accounting software (e.g., Procore Financials, Sage 300 CRE, Jonas Construction, or equivalent).
- Strong knowledge of GAAP, cost control systems, and project financial documentation.
- Advanced skills in Excel and cost reporting tools.
Soft Skills:
- Highly accurate, analytical, and organized with strong attention to detail.
- Strong communication skills to coordinate effectively with project and finance teams.
- Ability to manage competing deadlines in a dynamic project environment.
Certifications (a plus):
- Pursuit of CPA designation or equivalent financial credentials.
- Training or certification in construction finance considered an asset.
Job Types: Full-time, Permanent
Pay: $60,000.00-$85,000.00 per year
