Summary
Reporting to the Safety Manager, the Field Safety Technician is responsible for promoting a strong safety culture through site inspections, audits, investigations, training, and regulatory compliance activities. This role works closely with field crews and management to support environmental, health, safety, transportation, and commercial driving compliance while balancing operational goals. The successful candidate will possess strong communication, computer, and organizational skills, with experience in safety auditing, reporting, data analysis, training facilitation, fleet and transportation management, and the use of Microsoft Office and safety management systems. Frequent travel to project sites is required.
RESPONSIBILITIES
- Under the guidance of the Safety Manager, promote acceptance of sound safety practices and encourage full participation of all company personnel throughout the operations
- Work directly with, educate and build relationships with all levels of field employees to balance environmental, health & safety requirements with production goals to ensure compliance with safety-related regulations, systems and practices.
- Perform random inspections of job sites, facilities, equipment, vehicles, and investigations.
- Solve safety related problems on the work site.
- Immediately deal with identified problems by giving specific advice for the correction of the problem(s) to the General Superintendent, Superintendent, Foreman or worker as appropriate.
- Conduct safety, transportation, and compliance audits to identify risks, verify adherence to company policies and regulatory requirements, and track corrective actions.
- Monitor transportation and commercial driving compliance, including driver qualifications, hours of service, vehicle inspections, licensing requirements, and fleet safety programs.
- Utilize Microsoft Office and safety management software to maintain records, prepare reports, track training, inspections, audits, incidents, and corrective actions.
- Recommend safety-related programs, activities, recognition for employees
- Provide various types of Environmental, Health & Safety training to all levels of employees
QUALIFICATIONS
- Have or working toward an OHS certificate, diploma, university degree or related education;
- 2 or more years of related field experience in a construction environment
- NCSO or CRSP (or equivalent) certification would be an asset.
- Must be able to work independently and take ownership of work
- Familiar with Federal and Provincial Environmental, Health & Safety regulations
- Willingness to travel up to 60% and to be on site at least 80% of the time.
- Exceptional communication skills as well as tact and diplomacy
- Driver’s License Class 5 and Clean Drivers Abstract
- Knowledge of transportation regulations, commercial vehicle requirements, driver qualifications, hours of service, and fleet safety programs.
- Strong computer proficiency with experience using Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint), safety management systems, electronic document management, and reporting software.
- Experience conducting audits, inspections, and compliance reviews, including documenting findings, preparing reports, and tracking corrective actions.
- Auditor training or certification (e.g., COR Auditor, Internal Auditor, ISO Auditor, or equivalent) would be considered a strong asset.

Pay: $70,000.00-$80,000.00 per year
