We are looking for a Senior Wildlife Technician to join our team.
Position Profile
The Senior Wildlife Technician plays a key role in the daily operations of our wildlife hospital, providing essential care for injured sick or orphaned wild animals. This role is responsible for overseeing the delivery of comprehensive treatment, rehabilitation and care to a diverse range of wildlife. This includes, but is not limited to, patient intake, medical examinations, housing, diet preparation, pain management, wound care, and maintaining accurate patient records.
In addition to direct animal care, this role is instrumental in the training and mentorship of seasonal staff and volunteers, ensuring that all team members are equipped to provide the highest standard of care. This collaborative role requires advanced technical expertise, sound judgment, and the ability to provide guidance and support in a busy, hands-on wildlife rehabilitation environment.
Position Type
40 hours per week, permanent, on-site at Wildlife Rescue's Burnaby, BC facility.
Compensation
$24.00-$26.00 hourly based on experience

Our Wildlife Rehabilitation team
Our Wildlife Rehabilitation team provides care to approximately 5,000 injured, sick or orphaned wild animals each year. Operating 365 days a year, the team delivers compassionate, evidence-based care through all stages of rehabilitation, from intake and medical treatment to husbandry, enrichment and release, while adapting to changing demands of each season and the diverse needs of our wildlife patients.

Highlight of Key Responsibilities
- Lead day-to-day wildlife patient care, including treatment, rehabilitation, and ongoing monitoring.
- Assess and triage incoming patients, support diagnostics, and develop appropriate care plans
- Administer medications, wound care, fluid therapy, nutrition, and other prescribed treatments.
- Safely handle and restrain wildlife while ensuring animal and personnel safety.
- Oversee species-specific diet preparation and housing for a variety of wildlife species
- Maintain accurate and thorough patient records, ensuring timely and efficient data entry into the WRAPD system.
- Contribute to identifying and conducting research, statistical analysis, and case studies that maintain and constantly improve animal care standards.
- Support the development, review, and implementation of policies, protocols, standard operating procedures, and program materials that support the needs of the Wildlife Hospital.
- Actively participate in the oversight of the wildlife hospital's facilities, equipment, and supply inventory.
- Train and supervise hospital program volunteers, practicum students, and summer staff, ensuring their skills development, and recognizing their contributions.
Key Qualifications & Experience
- A certificate or diploma in Wildlife Biology, Environmental Science, Veterinary Technology, or a related field is highly preferred.
- Minimum 2 years wildlife rehabilitation experience, required.
- Demonstrated ability to safely handle and restrain wild animals, including birds, bats, amphibians and reptiles.
- Proficient in providing medical care, including determining treatment pathways, administering medications and performing wound care and other routine treatments
- Strong written and verbal communication skills; willingness and ability to engage with the public, colleagues and volunteers.
- Robust problem-solving skills.
- Highly motivated, with the ability to work independently as well as collaboratively within a fast-paced team environment.
- Exceptional organizational skills, with attention to detail in record-keeping and treatment documentation.
- Ability to lift and carry up to 23 kilograms (50 pounds).
- Comfortable working outdoors in all weather conditions.
- Ability to work flexible shifts, including early mornings, late evenings, weekends, and holidays.
- Comprehensive understanding of wildlife species, particularly in BC’s Lower Mainland region, an asset.
- Certified Wildlife Rehabilitator (CWR) designation through IWRC, an asset.
