Position: Shipper & Receiver / Storekeeper
Overview:
We are seeking a reliable and organized Shipper & Receiver / Storekeeper to support Food Services operations. The successful candidate will be responsible for receiving, storing, and distributing food products and supplies, maintaining inventory, and ensuring storage areas are clean, organized, and well-stocked. This role requires attention to detail, the ability to work in a fast-paced environment, and a commitment to food safety and operational efficiency.
Key Responsibilities:
- Orders, Receives and stores all incoming goods and supplies; loads same into appropriate storage areas.
- Receives and fills daily stock requisitions from Food Services staff; delivers goods to designated areas.
- Checks items received against order sheet and invoices; signs delivery slips if correct; reports errors and/or changes in deliveries to Chef and/or Food Services Manager.
- Performs the bi-monthly physical inventory counts for storerooms, refrigerators and freezers.
- Cleans and maintains storeroom and storage areas, loading dock, refrigerators and freezers; ensures the receiving hallway is unobstructed; empties and changes waste receptacles.
- Monitors stock on hand in order to determine supply requirements; orders; contacts suppliers in absence of Food Services Manager and ensures that all stations are properly merchandised and stocked with products.
- Stores, arranges and rotates stock in the storeroom. Notifies kitchen personnel in a timely manner of any product shortages
- Maintains chemical and cleaning supply storerooms; distributes cleaning supplies to designated areas.
- Demonstrates some understanding of the issues around local sourcing and sustainability and is willing to learn about and maintain TMU’s commitment to promote fresh, wholesome, sustainably sourced food for the campus community.
- Performs other related duties as required.
Qualifications & Skills:
- Previous experience in food service, hospitality, or institutional food service is an asset.
- Experience receiving, storing, and distributing food products and kitchen supplies.
- Knowledge of food safety, sanitation, and safe food storage practices.
- Familiarity with inventory control, stock rotation (FIFO), and maintaining accurate inventory records.
- Ability to inspect deliveries, verify invoices and purchase orders, and report discrepancies.
- Experience maintaining clean and organized storerooms, refrigerators, freezers, and receiving areas.
- Ability to safely lift and move heavy boxes and supplies (up to 50 lbs/23 kg) and perform physically demanding tasks.
- Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
- Ability to work efficiently in a fast-paced environment while meeting deadlines.
- Excellent communication and teamwork skills when working with kitchen staff, supervisors, and suppliers.
- Basic computer skills for inventory tracking and ordering systems.
- Knowledge of WHMIS and safe handling of cleaning chemicals is an asset.
- Food Handler Certification is an asset (or willingness to obtain one).
- Understanding of sustainability practices in food services and commitment to supporting environmentally responsible operations.
- Reliable, dependable, and able to work flexible shifts, including weekends and holidays if required.

Pay: From $23.85 per hour
