ROLE
The Welder’s Helper is responsible for providing assistance to the Welder by performing duties, such as supplying or holding materials or tools and cleaning the work area and equipment.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
- Assist with welding functions.
- Operate small power tools for the preparation of material (such as a power grinder).
- Set up work as required.
- Perform general housekeeping duties.
Note: In addition to these duties personnel are required to carry out such other duties as may be reasonably required in order to support the objectives of the company.
POSITION REQUIREMENTS
Qualifications
- Various safety tickets/certificates as required depending on project.
Experience
- No previous work experience required.
- 3 months of experience in a construction helper position preferred.
Skills and Knowledge
- Knowledge of pipeline construction industry preferred.
- Ability to read and interpret blueprints preferred.
- Ability to concentrate on detailed work.
- Good vision and hand-eye coordination.
- Manual dexterity.
WORKING CONDITIONS
This position is field based and often works within remote project locations. Travel and/or living in temporary accommodations is required. Able to work 6 days on, 1 day off shift with 11-hour shifts (10 hours worked, 1 hour travel) for the duration of project.
REPORTING RELATIONSHIPS
The Welder’s Helper reports to the Welder and Welding Foreperson. The position has no supervisory duties.
EXPECTED COMPENSATION RANGE
$33.38 – $36.51 per hour
