Youth Ministry Associate – Job Description
Position Overview
Islington United Church is seeking a passionate and relational Youth Ministry Associate to join our growing Children, Youth, and Families Ministry team. Working alongside the Children & Families Ministry Lead, this part-time position focuses on nurturing the faith, leadership, and community engagement of youth ages 11–18.
The successful candidate will be committed to creating a welcoming and inclusive environment where young people can grow in their faith, develop meaningful relationships, and actively participate in the life of the church through worship, service, and fellowship.
Responsibilities
Relationship Building & Pastoral Support
· Build meaningful relationships with youth and their families.
· Foster a welcoming, inclusive, and safe environment for all participants.
· Encourage youth participation in worship and congregational life.
· Provide appropriate support and encouragement to youth as they navigate life.
Program Leadership
· Plan and lead weekly youth programming on Sunday mornings during worship (10:00 a.m. – 12:00 p.m.).
· Assist with and support youth participation in Thursday evening family and children's ministry programming.
· Help plan and lead the church's annual youth retreat and other special events.
Leadership Development & Service
· Equip and mentor youth to take on leadership roles within the congregation.
· Organize connections between the communities’ current service and outreach projects and fundraising initiatives.
Communication & Administration
· Maintain regular communication with youth and families through email, social media, and other digital platforms.
· Promote upcoming events and ministry opportunities.
· Assist with program planning, scheduling, registration, and volunteer coordination as required.
Creative Arts & Special Projects
· Support youth participation in behind-the-scenes production and leadership roles for the annual children's musical and other special events.
Qualifications
· Experience working with youth in a church, camp, educational, or community setting.
· Demonstrated leadership experience in a ministry context.
· Passion for supporting the spiritual growth and well-being of young people.
· Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
· Competence with digital communication platforms and social media.
· Ability to work collaboratively as part of a ministry team while also working independently.
· A clear and current Vulnerable Sector Check (required upon hiring).
Work Schedule
This position offers flexibility while requiring availability for these core ministry times:
· Sunday mornings (10:00 a.m. – 12:00 p.m.) – Weekly youth programming
· Thursday evenings (4:00 p.m. – 8:00 p.m.) – Family dinner/children's chorus program
· Additional flexible hours for planning, communication, events, retreats, and special programs
Compensation & Details
· Part-time position: 10 hours per week
· Compensation: To be negotiated
· Start Date: September 1, 2026
· Reports to: Children & Families Ministry Lead
