Accounting Practice Manager
Location: Edmonton, AB (Hybrid Optional)
Reports To: CEO / Regional Director
About the Role
We are seeking an experienced Accounting Practice Manager to lead the day-to-day operations of a growing accounting practice. The successful candidate will oversee staff, budgets, client service delivery, workflow management, and financial performance while ensuring exceptional service to our clients.
This is a leadership role for someone who enjoys developing people, improving processes, managing capacity, and driving profitability in a professional services environment.
Key Responsibilities
Practice Operations
- Manage the daily operations of the accounting practice.
- Monitor workflow, deadlines, and staff utilization.
- Ensure client work is completed accurately and on time.
- Implement and improve operational processes and efficiencies.
Team Leadership
- Lead, coach, mentor, and develop a team of accountants, bookkeepers, and administrative staff.
- Conduct performance reviews and establish development plans.
- Assist with recruiting, onboarding, and staff retention.
- Foster a positive, collaborative, and accountable culture.
Financial Management & Budgeting
- Develop and manage annual budgets.
- Monitor practice performance against budget and key performance indicators.
- Analyze profitability by client, service line, and team member.
- Review monthly financial reports and recommend improvements. Accounting managers commonly oversee budgets, financial reporting, staff, and performance analysis.
Client Service & Relationship Management
- Act as a senior point of contact for clients.
- Resolve escalated client issues.
- Ensure consistent delivery of high-quality client service.
- Support client retention and growth initiatives.
Compliance & Quality Control
- Ensure compliance with accounting standards, tax regulations, and firm policies.
- Oversee quality control procedures.
- Support internal and external reviews when required.
Qualifications
- CPA designation preferred.
- 5+ years of accounting experience.
- 3+ years in a leadership or management role.
- Experience managing accounting staff and budgets.
- Strong knowledge of Canadian accounting and tax principles.
- Experience with cloud accounting platforms such as Xero, QuickBooks Online, and related practice management software.

Compensation
- Competitive base salary.
- Performance bonus tied to practice growth and profitability.
Pay: $100,000.00-$150,000.00 per year
