Thi Lelum Smuneem Kitchen Coordinator Guidelines
Function: The “Kitchen Coordinator” will work with the Aboriginal Head Start Coordinator to develop a healthy food menu for the AHS Program, where all meals in the day are provided for the children. There will also be full responsibility for kitchen clean up and dishes from the daily menu.
Roles and Responsibilities: The KC will prepare a food list, coordinate on menu planning for the program, kitchen cleaning during the hours of work in accordance to the safe foods and safety of others. Sort and store all foods when they arrive at the Centre.
Duties Include:
- Organize menu for program
- Prepare, cook and clean up of kitchen area after each meals
- Wash dishes from children
- Compile Costco list
- Have general knowledge of food cost per serving and assign costs to the appropriate programs
- Monitor inventory of food, supplies, and utensils in the kitchen
- Supervise volunteers, practicum student or other employees when needed
- Discard leftovers as necessary or distribute to families on the day they are served
- Ensuring other staff members or groups are aware of the Kitchen Standards and Checklist
Qualifications:
- Valid Driver’s License
- Food Safe Certificate
- General knowledge of the Canada Food Guide
Other:
- Ensure that the refrigerator, cupboards, shelves, and linens are kept clean in accordance of the Cleaning Policies.
Job Type: Part-time
Pay: $21.00-$25.00 per hour
Ability to commute/relocate:
- Nanaimo, BC: reliably commute or plan to relocate before starting work (required)
Experience:
- Cooking: 1 year (preferred)
Licence/Certification:
- Food Safe, SafeCheck, Food Handler or equivalent (preferred)
