Position Summary
The EHS Officer provides day-to-day support to the Director of HR & EHS in maintaining workplace health, safety, and environmental programs. This is an entry- to junior-level role focused on coordination, documentation, inspections, and training support to help ensure compliance with OHSA, WSIB, and environmental regulations, while promoting a safe and healthy workplace.
Key Responsibilities
Health & Safety Program Support
- Assist in developing, implementing, and maintaining workplace health & safety programs, policies, and procedures
- Participate in and support the WSPS Excellence Program
- Support EHS goals, tracking, and reporting activities
- Promote safe work practices and PPE compliance
- Participate in routine safety walkthroughs in production, warehouse, and lab areas
Inspections & Compliance
- Support workplace inspections with Joint Health & Safety Committee (JHSC) members
- Document findings and track corrective actions
- Assist with monthly inspections of fire extinguishers, emergency exits/lighting, first aid stations, and spill kits
- Maintain organized inspection and compliance records
JHSC Coordination
- Schedule and coordinate JHSC meetings and monthly inspections
- Assist in preparing meeting materials and presentations
- Record meeting minutes and track action items
- Follow up on action plans
- Participate in and present selected updates during JHSC meetings (e.g., inspection results, training updates)
Hazard Identification & Job Task Analysis
- Assist departments in identifying hazards related to process changes, new equipment, or new tasks
- Support job task analyses, including PPE requirements
- Maintain hazard assessment documentation
Incident Reporting & Return-to-Work
- Support reporting and documentation of workplace incidents and near misses
- Assist in investigations and tracking corrective actions
- Help coordinate WSIB reporting and return-to-work programs
Emergency Preparedness
- Assist in organizing fire drills and evacuation procedures
- Support spill response readiness and emergency planning
- Help maintain emergency equipment and documentation
Training & Awareness
- Assist in coordinating and delivering training:
- New hire EHS orientation
- WHMIS (including WHMIS 2025)
- PPE and basic safety practices
- LOTO awareness
- Support Emergency Response training, including:
- Fire prevention and evacuation procedures
- Spill response awareness
- Confined/restricted space awareness
- Maintain training records and track certification compliance
- Support safety talks/toolbox talks
Environmental Support
- Assist in maintaining the company’s waste management program
- Support compliance with MECP and municipal regulations
- Conduct routine checks of waste handling and storage areas
- Assist with sustainability and environmental reporting initiatives (EcoVadis, Sedex, CDP)
Documentation & Reporting
- Maintain EHS documentation, including:
- Health and Safety SOPs
- Inspection reports
- Training records and matrix
- Incident logs
- Support audit preparation and compliance documentation
Qualifications
- Diploma or degree in Occupational Health & Safety, Environmental Science, or related field; or equivalent practical experience in a manufacturing environment
- 1–3 years of relevant experience
- Basic knowledge of OHSA and WHMIS
- Strong organizational and communication skills
- Proficiency in Chinese is considered a strong asset to support effective communication, training, and safety engagement in a multilingual workplace
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office
- Eagerness to learn and grow in EHS

Pay: $50,000.00-$65,000.00 per year
