Martin & Hillyer Associates, one of Ontario's pre-eminent law firms located in Burlington for over 50 years, has an opening for a Family Law Clerk, Full-Time. The successful applicant must have a minimum of 5 years experience working in a family law setting.
Duties and Responsibilities include:
- Drafting, preparing, and reviewing legal documents, including pleadings, affidavits, disclosure briefs, financial statements, draft orders, etc..
- Client intake and paperless file management.
- Coordinating court filings in compliance with the Family Law Rules and all practice directions.
- Liaising and maintaining professional relationships with clients, opposing counsel, and court staff.
- Scheduling and managing calendar obligations, including meetings, court dates, and deadlines.
- Legal research.
- Administrative duties, including docketing time, processing accounts, intake of client payments, opening and closing files, etc..
- Occasional reception coverage.
The successful candidate will be a confident, detailed-oriented professional with:
- A Law Clerk Diploma and a minimum of 5 years of recent experience working in a family law office.
- Strong working knowledge of the Family Law Rules and familiarity with Ontario’s Family Law Act, the Divorce Act, and other essential family law legislation.
- Solid understanding of court procedures and family law practice, and experience dealing directly with clients and legal professionals.
- Effective writing skills with keen attention to grammar and spelling.
- Exceptional organizational and communication skills.
- The ability to prioritize, multi-task, and meet deadlines with a high degree of accuracy.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook, Teams), Adobe Acrobat, DivorceMate, Case Centre.
- Familiarity with LEAP software preferred.
Compensation:
Competitive salary plus benefits, including extended health and dental coverage. Salary will be commensurate with experience. Bonuses in recognition of outstanding performance can significantly increase annual earnings.
