Organizational Overview:
The Rock and Roll Society of Edmonton is a group of passionate music lovers dedicated to the preservation and promotion of the rock and pop music that we grew up with and the contemporary rock music we love today.
The purpose of the Rock and Roll Society of Edmonton is twofold:
- To nurture youth’s love of music and performing through our Centre for Arts and Music (CAM) Program
- To honour the founders' goals of engaging local and national professional musicians and bringing live music to people in Edmonton and surrounding areas through music-centered social events.
The Executive Director provides focused leadership and operational support to ensure the organization runs smoothly, maintains strong community relationships, and advances its mission within a small‑team environment.
Core Responsibilities
Leadership & Board Support
- Work with the Board to set priorities and support practical, achievable strategic goals.
- Provide timely updates on operations, opportunities, and challenges.
- Maintain clear communication and strong working relationships with the Board.
Operations Management
- Support Centre For Arts and Music (CAM) Program Manager as needed ensuring logistics run smoothly.
- Monitor program quality and gather feedback for improvement.
- Manage day-to-day administrative tasks appropriate to a small organization.
- Conduct official correspondence on behalf of the Society.
- Ensure statutory obligations related to charitable status are met.
Fundraising & Community Engagement
- Prepare and manage grant applications.
- Maintain relationships with donors, partners, and community organizations.
- Support fundraising initiatives and events.
- Represent the organization in the community and act as spokesperson when needed.
Financial Administration
- Prepare simple budgets and track monthly revenues and expenses.
- Work with the Board and bookkeeper to ensure accurate financial records.
- Work with the Board to secure adequate funding for the operation of the organization.
Human Resources
- Recruit and onboard contractors as needed.
- Maintain HR files and ensure compliance with basic policies.
- Support a positive, collaborative environment for staff and volunteers.
Qualifications
- Experience in nonprofit, registered charities or small-organization leadership.
- Strong organizational, communication, and relationship-building skills.
- Ability to manage multiple responsibilities independently within limited hours.
- Comfort with budgeting, grant writing, and basic administrative tools.
Working Conditions
- Combination of remote and in-person work.
- Occasional evenings/weekends for events or meetings.
- Some local travel.
Reporting Relationships
- The executive director will report directly to the Board President
- The executive director will be expected to provide written and oral reports on society activities to the board of directors
- The CAM Program Manager reports directly to the Executive Director.
- The Society may engage contractors with prior approval from the Board. Once hired, contractors may report directly to the Executive Director.
Compensation
$30/hour
In addition to base hourly compensation, the Executive Director would be eligible for incentive-based compensation upon achieving strategic objectives agreed between the Board and the Executive Director.
Pay: From $30.00 per hour
