Double Star Drilling has an immediate opening for a Full Time Driller’s Assistant. Previous Experience as a Driller’s assistant is beneficial to this role.
The Driller Assistant is responsible for assisting the operator with track or truck mounted pile driving equipment to drive various types of steel pilings into the ground for use as foundation support for buildings and other structures. The Driller’s Assistant primary duties are general housekeeping of the site, climbing in and out of equipment. Lifting, standing, and walking for long periods, exposed to different weather conditions, some work in the shop and some outside as required. Moving and cleaning of equipment, helping operators when needed. Some heavy lifting as required. The Driller assistant is responsible for spotting equipment, safe operation of their assigned piece of equipment and ensuring safety of all drilling tasks.
Key Duties
· Use of manual and power tools, grinders, air tools, brooms, and small equipment
· Must advise other workers of potential and actual hazards caused by equipment.
· Actively participate in Inspections and Audits
· Ensure that all hazards and incidents are reported to supervisor
· Must participate in Toolbox Meetings and actively engage with workers
· Must ensure that all paperwork (FLHA’s, Equipment Inspections etc.) are completed and that they are reviewed, and deficiencies are reported immediately
· Ensure that all daily, weekly, and monthly paperwork is completed and handed in
on time
· Assist Operator with assigned drilling machinery and communicate work scope
plan
· Perform pre-operational inspections, safety checks, and daily logs
· Communicate with assigned other crews and workers for conflicts in work area
· Must be comfortable with survey equipment
· Knowledge of anchor bar building and understand compliance requirements
· General understanding of reading and following plans, drawings and engineered
designs
· Removal of drill spoils and site clean up
· Changing of bits, casings and other tools
· Physical and manual labour
· May perform other related duties as assigned
Equipment
Drilling Rigs: Watson 1100, SR30, SM5, Liebherr, Solimec, Comacchio, Davey Kent, Casagrande and other various equipment as required by project scope
Qualifications
· Minimum 1 year of Drilling Assistant experience in the applications and systems
related to Shoring, Anchors, CIP piling, CFA piling and Micropiling
· Previous experience with rotary, percussive drilling, solid stem augers, hollow
stem augers, injection bars and mud drilling operations is ideal
· Must provide own transportation to job site
· May be required to perform a drug and alcohol test for pre-project access or
post-incident
· Must be on time and fit for duty for all shifts
· Mechanically inclined is an asset
· Able to perform physically demanding tasks outside in all types of weather and
terrain
· Fall Protection is considered an asset
· Ability to walk on uneven terrain, sitting/driving for extended periods of time
· Ability to lift up to 50 lbs
· Must have positive attitude and respect safety and work culture
· Valid CSTS 2020
· Valid WHMIS Certification
· Hand eye coordination is needed for this position
· Valid Ground Disturbance Certification is an asset
· Class 5 Drivers License
· Class 3A Drivers License preferred
Hours and Schedule
Doublestar Drilling’s tentative operation hours are from 7:00AM to 5:00PM Monday through Friday. *Depending on production, schedule and timelines weekends may be required
