Position Summary:
We are seeking a versatile and motivated Maintenance and Operations Assistant to support our production facility. In this multi-faceted role, you will ensure equipment reliability through preventative maintenance, assist with mechanical repairs, and maintain strict equipment cleanliness. Additionally, you will train to become an approved backup operator for our packaging machinery and support the team with quality control logging and administrative duties.
Key Responsibilities:
- Preventative Maintenance: Perform routine checks, lubrication, and basic servicing on machinery to prevent breakdowns.
- Repair Assistance: Work directly with senior mechanics to diagnose and repair hydraulic, pneumatic, and mechanical breakdowns
- Sanitation: Regularly wash, clean, and remove bulk debris from machinery, hoppers, and mixing yards to maintain strict safety and operational standards.
- Backup Machine Operation: Cross-train on high-volume automated soil-bagging and packaging machinery to step in seamlessly as a backup line operator during peak seasons.
- Quality Management: Collect soil and compost composite samples, run basic verification checks, and ensure retail packaging meets organic regulatory standards.
- Administrative Support: Maintain and log preventative maintenance tasks, and file daily production and compliance reports.
Qualifications:
- 2+ years of experience in an industrial manufacturing, agricultural, or landscaping yard environment.
- Strong mechanical aptitude; comfortable working with basic hand tools and power equipment.
- Comfortable working in a dusty, agricultural facility environment (handling peat, composted manures, and organic raw materials).
- Basic computer literacy for daily maintenance data entry and inventory logging.
- Valid driver's licence and reliable transportation to the Cannington facility.
- Strong willingness to learn machine operations and technical processes.
- Excellent attention to detail for quality checks and administrative filing.
- Ability to lift heavy equipment and stand for extended periods.
Pay Range
- Hourly Rate: $21.00 – $26.00 per hour (depending on location and experience).
- Overtime Note: Eligible for Ontario standard overtime (1.5x regular pay) for any hours worked over 44 hours in a week, common during peak spring soil manufacturing seasons.
Pay: $21.00-$26.00 per hour
