At Ressam Gardens Memory Care Community Retirement Home, our residents are very important to us and we only provide the best quality of care and assistance to provide and improve their quality of life, health and happiness.
It is mandatory and extremely important that our PSWs are Kind, Respectful, Gentle and Patient with our Residents. The care for our Residents must meet and support all their physical, emotional, mental and social needs.
Personal care must be done professionally, safely and with the appropriate approach for residents with Dementia and Alzheimer in compliance with the RHRA , Public Health of Ontario and Health and Safety Guidelines.
Tasks include Daily Documentation of behaviour issues, emotional issues, cognitive changes, injuries, illness and eating.
Quality Care for our residents also includes daily light housekeeping of tiding rooms, making beds, cleaning dinning room area (sweeping floor, clearing tables, wiping tables) Cleaning accidents or spills. Loading dishwasher and laundry.
High quality, professional care and activities of daily living include feeding, showering, dressing, toileting, brief changing, proper oral hygiene, medication and companionship.
Duties
- Assist Residents with activities of daily living (ADLs), including showering, dressing, grooming, mobility support, feeding, toileting and companionship.
- Provide medication administration and monitor vital signs in accordance with care plans
- Perform light housekeeping tasks such as cleaning and maintaining a safe environment
- Utilize equipment like Hoyer lifts for safe transfers and mobility assistance
- Observe and document condition and behaviours, report changes to healthcare professionals, and ensure compliance with RHRA regulations
- Assist with hospice or palliative care needs while respecting resident's dignity and comfort
- Follow established care plans tailored to individual needs and preferences
- Maintain accurate records of resident's care activities and observations
Skills
- Valid certification as a Personal Support Worker (PSW)
- Experience working in group homes, assisted living, nursing homes, or home & community care environments for at least one year.
- Knowledge of Alzheimer's and Dementia care, and palliative support
- Ability to assist with ADLs and provide direct support to individuals with disabilities, developmental challenges and mobility issues
- Strong observation skills and ability to monitor vital signs effectively
- Experience working with people with autism or other developmental disabilities is advantageous
- Ability to perform heavy lifting safely when required for transfer or mobility assistance
- Compassionate caregiver with excellent communication skills and patience
- Knowledge of medication administration protocols and safety procedures in healthcare settings
