Overview
We are seeking a knowledgeable and committed Health and Safety Manager to lead and strengthen our occupational health and safety programs within our landscaping and construction operations. This position plays a key role in ensuring compliance with provincial and federal safety regulations, maintaining safe job sites, and promoting a strong safety culture among field crews, equipment operators, and office staff.
The ideal candidate will have solid experience with construction and landscaping safety standards, Ontario’s Occupational Health and Safety Act (OHSA), WSIB requirements, environmental protection regulations, and industry best practices. This full-time role offers the opportunity to lead safety initiatives, develop training programs, and implement preventative measures to reduce workplace incidents across multiple project sites.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop, implement, and maintain health and safety policies and procedures in compliance with OHSA, WSIB, Ministry of Labour, Immigration, Training and Skills Development (MLITSD), and environmental regulations.
- Conduct regular job site inspections, audits, and hazard assessments across landscaping, highway maintenance, and construction projects.
- Lead workplace incident and near-miss investigations using root cause analysis and implement corrective and preventative actions.
- Manage and coordinate WSIB claims, return-to-work programs, and injury case management in accordance with company policies and regulatory requirements.
- Develop and deliver safety training programs, including Working at Heights, equipment operation safety, traffic control, WHMIS, First Aid/CPR, and other relevant occupational health topics.
- Maintain accurate records and documentation related to incidents, inspections, training, compliance, and regulatory reporting.
- Work collaboratively with management and supervisors to develop emergency response and job site safety plans.
- Monitor changes in safety legislation, industry standards, and emerging safety technologies to continuously improve company safety performance.
- Act as the primary contact for regulatory inspections, environmental compliance matters, and safety audits.
- Promote a proactive safety culture by engaging employees through toolbox talks, safety meetings, and awareness initiatives.
Qualifications
- Proven experience in construction, landscaping, civil works, or related field operations with strong knowledge of occupational health and safety practices.
- Strong understanding of Ontario OHSA legislation, WSIB processes, environmental regulations, and EHS standards.
- Experience conducting incident investigations, preparing detailed reports, and developing safety training programs.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to identify workplace hazards and implement effective solutions.
- Excellent communication and leadership skills to deliver training, support field teams, and collaborate with internal and external stakeholders.
- Ability to interpret regulatory requirements and ensure company-wide compliance across multiple job sites
Pay: $24.00-$25.00 per hour
