SteriPro Canada is a leading medical device reprocessing company, providing leading practice reprocessing and sterilization services from its facility in Mississauga, Ontario, and on-site at its partner hospitals. We are experts in the field of Medical Device Reprocessing, and are current with all standards and regulations set by the Canadian Standards Association (CSA) for the reprocessing and sterilization of reusable medical instruments and devices. SteriPro currently requires Part-Time Medical Device Reprocessing Technicians to work at SteriPro's partnered hospital in Toronto. The Medical Device Reprocessing Technician performs duties related to the decontaminating, inspecting, testing, assembling, packaging, wrapping, distribution, and case cart picking of reusable medical devices, including simple and complex instruments, linen, and equipment utilized for patient care in the operating rooms and other areas of the hospital.
POSITION STATUS: Part-Time, Day shift
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Completion of an accredited college course in Medical Device Reprocessing with successful certification.
- While one year of recent experience in sterile processing is preferred, it is not mandatory.
- Familiarity with surgical and medical terminology.
- Capable of collaborative work, showing initiative, and adapting to changes.
- Proficient in the principles of decontamination, processing, sterilization, and sterile storage and distribution.
- Skilled in setting up and preparing surgical instrumentation according to established regulations and guidelines.
- Utilizes provided protective equipment and promptly reports any identified hazards.
- Possesses strong organizational and interpersonal abilities.
- Demonstrates effective prioritization skills.
KEY DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Receive soiled instrument carts from the OR and other hospital areas; pre-wash and properly segregate instruments in preparation for transport to the SteriPro processing plant.
- Scan and document all instruments and sets using the tracking system in accordance with internal policies and procedures.
- Sort and process contaminated surgical instruments and maintain integrity of sets in preparation for sterilization, including separating, disassembling/assembling, manual washing, ultrasonic washing, mechanical washing, and packaging by understanding and following instructions as defined in the SteriPro Tracking System (STS).
- Check key inputs of washers such as (but not limited to) detergent level and appropriate detergent/high-level disinfectant type, etc.
- Reprocess items requiring high-level disinfection (HLD) such as (but not limited to) Colonoscope, Gastroscope, Cystoscope, and other applicable devices.
- Perform key functionality tests based on SOPs such as (but not limited to) TOSI, Bowie-Dick, and leak test, etc.
- Manually clean and reassemble equipment according to manufacturers' instructions for use (IFU) and CSA Standards.
- Conduct biological testing of the sterilizers; adhere to quality standard procedures for keeping accurate records of production (electronic and hard copy); release sterilized loads based on quality assurance testing and process parameters.
- Perform sterilization processes i.e., sterilization of instrumentation based upon manufacturers' recommendations; populate and collect all required documentation.
- Receive processed and sterilized instrument returns from the SteriPro plant and put away into the sterile storage area.
- Perform case cart picking as per OR schedule and priority requirements.
- Decant transportation carts and ensure accurate placement of instruments and supplies.
- Answer phone calls and respond promptly to emergency instrument requests from the OR and other clinical areas.
- Fill out all related forms and documents with strict adherence to internal policies and procedures.
- Participate in all kinds of training such as (but not limited to) training materials, training courses, etc.
Rate of Pay: As per the SEIU Collective Agreement
