Vehicle Maintenance Mechanic – Public Works

In accordance with the Collective Agreement between CUPE Local 1387 and the City of Miramichi, the following vacancy is posted:
Position Summary: Generally responsible for the maintenance and upkeep of city vehicles as directed by the by the fleet foreman or his designate.
Required Qualifications: Successful completion of Grade 12 or equivalent; possession of a valid Class 3 Driver’s License with air brake endorsement, possession of Truck & Transport mechanic license. Any other license will be considered as an asset; as well as, any additional training in hydraulic or electrical.
Ability to understand, interpret and carry out oral and written instructions/orders; must possess the physical ability to perform tasks required and successful completion of a medical examination.
Responsibilities:
· Comply with the Occupational Health and Safety Act and Regulations of the Province of New Brunswick
· To operate a vehicle inspection station for the City of Miramichi as per the Province of New Brunswick requirements.
· Performs maintenance and preventative maintenance on city owned vehicles and equipment.
· Maintains and completes work orders for all maintenance performed.
· Provides assistance to other garage personnel.
· Ability to operate a vehicle maintenance program.
· Performs the ordering/purchasing through Purchase Orders the necessary parts required for vehicle and equipment maintenance.
· Ensures invoices are maintained for processing and forwarding such to the public works secretary in a timely manner for payment.
· Assist in the process of determining vehicles/equipment for replacement schedule.
· Familiar with computer programs or have computer skills.
· All other orders from the Assistant Superintendent
