Sherwood Heights School is seeking a knowledgeable, professional, and adaptable High School Teacher to teach Business Studies, including financial accounting, economics, entrepreneurship, business leadership, marketing, international business, and related areas. The successful candidate must also be able to teach additional subject areas based on the school’s needs and the candidate’s qualifications, background, and teachable subjects.
This role is ideal for an Ontario Certified Teacher who is flexible, student-centred, familiar with Ontario assessment and evaluation practices, and able to contribute to a rigorous and supportive academic environment.
Key Responsibilities
- Teach high school Business Studies courses, including financial accounting, economics, entrepreneurship, marketing, business leadership, and related subjects.
- Teach additional high school courses as needed, based on qualifications, experience, and school scheduling requirements.
- Plan and deliver engaging lessons aligned with Ontario curriculum expectations.
- Assess and evaluate student achievement in accordance with Growing Success and school assessment policies.
- Support students in developing strong analytical, communication, financial literacy, research, and critical thinking skills.
- Prepare students for assessments, exams, presentations, projects, case studies, and post-secondary academic expectations.
- Create a structured, positive, and student-centred classroom environment.
- Prepare report card comments, marks, lesson materials, and academic documentation.
- Communicate professionally with students, parents, and administration regarding student progress and classroom expectations.
- Contribute to school initiatives, clubs, competitions, enrichment opportunities, and student support as needed.
Qualifications
- Ontario College of Teachers certification is required.
- Bachelor’s degree in education.
- Qualifications or experience in additional teachable subject areas are strongly preferred.
- High school teaching experience is preferred.
- Excellent classroom management, communication, organization, and lesson-planning skills.
- Professional, collaborative, and student-centred approach when working with students, parents, and staff.
