We are seeking a skilled, safety-focused Meat Grinder Machine Operator & Meat Cutter to join our production team. This hands-on role is responsible for trimming and preparing beef products, operating meat-grinding equipment, and maintaining consistent product quality, food safety, and production efficiency.
The ideal candidate has strong knife skills, practical knowledge of beef subprimals and retail cuts, experience working in a refrigerated food-production environment, and a disciplined approach to sanitation, safe machinery operation, and following production specifications.
Key Responsibilities
- Trim, cut, portion, and prepare beef subprimals, trim, and retail cuts according to product specifications, yield targets, and customer requirements.
- Sort and prepare meat trim for grinding, ensuring correct product selection, fat content, quality, and consistency.
- Safely set up, operate, monitor, and shut down meat grinders and related production equipment.
- Inspect ground meat and cut products for appearance, texture, temperature, quality, and compliance with company specifications.
- Follow production schedules, batch requirements, labelling procedures, and traceability controls.
- Use knives, saws, grinders, scales, and other cutting or processing equipment safely and efficiently.
- Perform basic equipment checks, identify operational issues, and promptly report equipment, product-quality, or food-safety concerns to the supervisor.
- Maintain accurate production, batch, yield, and waste records as required.
- Keep work areas, tools, equipment, and processing surfaces clean, organized, and sanitary throughout the shift.
- Follow all food-safety, sanitation, health-and-safety, PPE, HACCP, and company SOP requirements.
- Work collaboratively with production, packaging, sanitation, and warehouse team members to meet daily production targets.
- Support continuous improvement by identifying opportunities to improve yield, consistency, safety, workflow, and waste reduction.
Qualifications and Requirements
- Minimum two years of experience as a meat cutter, butcher, grinder operator, or meat-production worker in a processing facility, butcher shop, commissary, or similar environment.
- Demonstrated experience trimming beef subprimals and producing consistent retail or food-service cuts.
- Strong knowledge of beef cuts, trimming standards, fat-to-lean ratios, yield optimization, and product-quality expectations.
- Experience operating commercial meat grinders, band saws, knives, scales, and other meat-processing equipment is preferred.
- Strong knife skills, including safe knife handling, sharpening, and maintenance.
- Ability to recognize product-quality issues, including excessive fat, connective tissue, bone fragments, temperature concerns, discoloration, or contamination risks.
- Understanding of food-safety, sanitation, allergen-control, and safe-work practices in a meat-processing environment.
- Ability to follow written and verbal production instructions, recipes, specifications, and SOPs accurately.
- Reliable, detail-oriented, and able to work efficiently while maintaining quality and safety standards.
- Comfortable working in a refrigerated production environment.
- Able to stand, bend, reach, and perform repetitive tasks for extended periods.
- Able to safely lift and move products, containers, or materials weighing up to 50 lb.
Pay: $20.00-$24.00 per hour
