North York Seniors Centre promotes healthy aging by providing programs and services within our diverse community.
This position reports to the Supervisor, Active Living Centre.
Responsibilities:
· Assist in the planning of menus in order to facilitate the organization of food supplies and meal preparation
· Assist with inventory control, ordering, and shopping
Working with the Kitchen team to implement the daily meal service andspecial events
· Ensure the cleanliness of the kitchen and café areas at all times
· Follow safe food handling procedures during food preparation and meal service
· Assist in the planting, maintaining, harvesting of a small community garden
· Perform other projects, as assigned by Supervisor
· Participate in continuous quality improvement processes and assist the ALC Team with research and development of best practices
· Promote and maintain a high standard of customer service that is client focused
· Assist in providing volunteer training regarding safe food handling practices and/or health and safety knowledge
Qualifications/ Skills:
Education: Completion of a secondary school diploma (high school diploma) or equivalent
Certified Safe Food Handling Training Program certification is preferred; training can be provided if required.
Orientation and training on kitchen equipment will be provided, as needed.
Enrollment in or completion of a post-secondary program in Culinary Arts, Food and Nutrition, Hospitality, Community Services, Health Promotion, Recreation, Horticulture, or a related field is considered an asset.
Experience: Knowledge of safe food handling, sanitation, and health and safety practices.
Experience working in a kitchen, café, community food program, volunteer setting, or community garden is an asset.
Other: Ability to work collaboratively with staff, volunteers, and community members
