Our client is seeking an experienced Site Superintendent to oversee commercial new build construction projects from site preparation through final completion. This role is well suited for a strong field leader with experience managing site operations, coordinating trades, maintaining schedules, and ensuring commercial projects are delivered safely, efficiently, and to a high standard.
The successful candidate will be responsible for day-to-day site leadership, subcontractor coordination, quality control, safety compliance, site documentation, and resolving field-level challenges as they arise. Projects may include commercial, light industrial, institutional, retail, office, mixed-use, or similar new construction projects, typically ranging from mid-sized to larger-scale builds.
Key Responsibilities
- Manage daily site activities on commercial new build projects to ensure work is completed safely, efficiently, and in line with the project schedule.
- Coordinate subcontractors, site crews, suppliers, consultants, and project stakeholders.
- Conduct regular site walks to monitor progress, quality, safety, and site conditions.
- Review drawings, specifications, shop drawings, and project details to support accurate execution.
- Maintain daily logs, progress updates, site reports, and required project documentation.
- Support toolbox talks, safety orientations, inspections, and safety reporting.
- Monitor workmanship and ensure work meets project specifications, building code requirements, and industry standards.
- Identify and resolve site issues related to scheduling, sequencing, quality, safety, and coordination.
- Work closely with Project Managers, consultants, engineers, and subcontractors to support successful project delivery.
- Manage site logistics, trade sequencing, materials, equipment, deliveries, and overall site organization.
- Support change management, cost awareness, and communication of site-related impacts.
- Promote a clean, organized, productive, and safety-focused commercial construction site.
Qualifications
- Minimum 5 years of Site Superintendent experience with a General Contractor.
- Proven experience delivering commercial new build construction projects.
- Experience on projects in the $5M–$50M range is preferred.
- Strong understanding of construction drawings, specifications, building codes, and commercial site coordination.
- Experience with civil works, excavation, foundations, structural systems, building envelope, interior build-out, and final turnover.
- Strong QA/QC mindset with the ability to maintain high workmanship standards.
- Ability to coordinate multiple trades and manage complex commercial site activities.
- Strong communication, leadership, planning, and problem-solving skills.
- Comfortable working closely with Project Managers, consultants, subcontractors, vendors, and field teams.
- Thorough understanding of occupational health and safety requirements.
- Intermediate First Aid is required or strongly preferred.
- Journeyperson certification is considered an asset.
- Must have reliable transportation to and from site.
Technical & Leadership Skills
- Ability to read and interpret blueprints, shop drawings, specifications, and commercial construction details.
- Strong scheduling, sequencing, and site coordination ability.
- Experience managing commercial site logistics, trades, equipment, deliveries, and materials.
- Ability to identify risks early and take action to prevent delays, safety issues, or quality concerns.
- Strong documentation skills, including daily reports, progress updates, site records, deficiency tracking, and change-related information.
- Ability to lead, mentor, delegate, and support field teams.
- Strong communication with subcontractors, consultants, suppliers, and internal project teams.
- Practical, solutions-focused approach to resolving site challenges.
