The Southern Alberta Ethnic Association is looking for dynamic, and energetic individuals with exceptional customer service skills for the position of Casual Event and Rental Assistant.
SAEA is a Not For Profit Organization with charitable status that represents some of the most culturally and ethnically diverse groups in our multicultural nation.
This role provides and represents the face of the Southern Alberta Ethnic Association to all guests and clients and assists in the logistical management of events and rentals as directed by supervisor. Event Assistants are integral to the successful execution of various types of events, ranging from festivals, parties, conferences, meetings to weddings. They are responsible for a wide variety of tasks before, during, and after an event or venue rental.
Event and rental roles can be physically demanding and can often involve long hours of standing, walking, lifting and moving equipment. Some roles may require heavy lifting or setting up and tearing down event spaces. Physical stamina and resilience can be important qualities for this casual role.
Our ideal candidate is an excellent communicator, able to work as part of a team, handle multiple tasks, and interact with diverse groups of people. Students who are looking for a part time experience in a multicultural setting would be ideal candidates.
The goal for this staff person is to provide a seamless and enjoyable experience for all attendees and contribute to the overall success of events and rentals.
Duties Include:
Preparation of venue space with chairs, staging and operating cash & Square Point of Sale device when necessary. Setting up and dismantling event spaces, ensuring they are ready for use
- Address attendees’ queries promptly and professionally
- Collaborate with team members to ensure the event runs smoothly
- Coordinating with event vendors and service providers
Ability to work with a team or as an individual when required
Directing guests to the restrooms
Managing flow of guests in and out of the venue
Acting as the main customer service contact for all guests
- Ensuring all event facilities are clean and well-maintained and assisting with facility
maintenance and cleaning tasks to keep standards high at all times outside of regular
business hours. Knowledge in the use of small cleaning equipment
- Bartending for weddings, events and parties as needed
- Ability to manage technical and sound equipment as needed by clients
- Maintain confidentiality at all times and act with courtesy, integrity and responsibility
- Handling event emergencies and issues promptly
- Ensuring the event adheres to applicable safety and health regulations and AGLC
guidelines
- Assisting in the evaluation of the event’s success and participating in post-event cleanup
- Securing the facility once event is completed
- Snow shovelling
- Assisting with any other duties for office and facility management as per organizational
needs.

What You Bring
Previous event experience, 1-2 years working in various festivals, events, meetings,
bartending and weddings or large parties.
- Experience with facility cleaning including use of auto-scrubber, replacing of industrial
paper towel and toilet paper
- Flexible for week day evening, weekend and on call shifts as needed
- Excellent face-to-face communication and customer service skills
- Ability to work within a team of other staff
- Ability to take direction
- Good understanding of event dynamics and operations including ticketing, crowd
management and customer service
- Proven experience as a bartender for events both large and small.
- Must be able to lift up to 50lbs
- Decision making skills
- Ability to handle stressful situations and remain calm under pressure
- Attention to detail
- Cash handling experience
Asset Qualifications:
Pro-serve certification (current)
- Standard First Aid and CPR certification
- Food Handling Safety certification
- WHMIS training

Hourly rate for this position is $17.00/hour
