Job Summary
We are seeking a dedicated Baking Assistant to join our bakery team. This role involves supporting daily baking operations, assisting with food preparation, and ensuring the quality and presentation of baked goods. The ideal candidate will have a passion for baking, excellent attention to detail, and a commitment to food safety standards. This position offers an opportunity to gain hands-on experience in a food industry environment while contributing to the creation of delicious baked products.
Responsibilities
- Assist in preparing ingredients and assembling baked goods according to recipes and quality standards
- Assist with mixing, scaling, shaping and proofing bagel dough according to recipes
- Assist with boiling bagels, monitoring bake times and temperatures, and transferring products to cooling racks
- Support production of cookies, small cakes and other baked items.
- Operate baking equipment such as mixers, ovens, etc. safely and efficiently
- Support sandwich making and finishing touches for catering orders
- follow all AHS and Canada food safety regulations, including completing temperature logs, allergen controls and sanitation procedures
- perform routine cleaning of baking equipment, tools, and work surfaces
- Complete daily, weekly and monthly cleaning schedules.
- Maintain cleanliness and organization of the kitchen and baking stations
- Handle food safely by following proper food handling procedures and hygiene practices
- Work with head baker to meet daily production targets
- Recieve, portion, label and store ingredients following FIFO and AHS food safety standards
- support daily prep tasks such as slicing vegetables, prepping spreads and other sandwich items
- Complete inventory management tasks, following FIFO, and communicate inventory shortages and needs
- Package baked items for retail display or customer orders with care and precision
- Support the front of house team during busy periods, including restocking supplies and cleaning equipment
- Ensure all baked products meet presentation and quality standards before they are served or packaged
- Follow all safety protocols related to food preparation and kitchen operations
Skills
- Food Handler Certification (or ability to obtain)
- Experience or training in bread baking is preferred but not required
- Previous restaurant or food industry experience is a plus
- Knowledge of food preparation, baking, and cooking techniques
- Ability to lift up to 40 lbs (bags of flour, dough, sheet pans)
- Strong customer service skills for interacting with customers when needed
- Familiarity with food handling regulations and food safety practices
- Ability to work efficiently in a fast-paced kitchen environment
- Excellent attention to detail for quality control and presentation
- Ability to stand for extended periods and perform repetitive tasks with precision
- Team-oriented mindset with good communication skills
- ability to work early mornings, weekends and holidays as needed
