Position Summary
As a Lead Hand – Truck and Transport Technician (6 Years Experience or Journeyman), you will play a key leadership role within the fleet maintenance operation by overseeing daily shop activities, supporting technicians and apprentices, and ensuring company equipment is maintained safely, efficiently, and in compliance with regulatory standards. This hands-on position combines technical expertise with leadership responsibilities, helping to keep the fleet operating at peak performance while minimizing downtime and controlling maintenance costs.
You will coordinate repair schedules, prioritize workflow, troubleshoot complex mechanical issues, and provide guidance and mentorship to shop staff in a fast-paced environment. The successful candidate will help maintain a safe, organized, and productive shop while ensuring high-quality service standards and operational reliability across the fleet.
What You Will Do
- Support and mentor technicians and apprentices by providing training, coaching, and assistance with troubleshooting and repairs
- Oversee daily maintenance and repair activities to ensure equipment is serviced efficiently and safely
- Determine work schedules, repair priorities, and task assignments based on operational needs and shop workload
- Diagnose mechanical issues and determine required installations, repairs, or maintenance services
- Monitor maintenance costs, shop productivity, and fleet downtime
- Maintain inventory levels for tools, parts, and shop supplies
- Ensure the shop environment remains clean, safe, and compliant with company and regulatory standards
- Compile and maintain operational and personnel records including repair histories, inventory data, maintenance statistics, and productivity reports
- Work closely with drivers and operations teams to address equipment concerns and minimize service disruptions
What You’ll Bring
- 5–7 years of related experience in fleet or heavy-duty equipment maintenance
- College diploma and/or trade apprenticeship certification
- Licensed Heavy Duty Mechanic with Journeyman/Red Seal certification or minimum 6 years experience.
- Unlicensed techs must have worked 6 years out of the last 10 in applicable field
- They must have accumulated a minumum of 10,800 hours in this period
- They myst have acquired at least 70% of the schope of the trade
- Off-Road and On-Road certification and CVIP experience an assett
- Strong leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills
- Excellent organizational skills with the ability to manage competing priorities in a fast-paced environment
- Ability to multitask and adapt to changing operational needs
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office and web-based applications preferred
- Strong commitment to safety, teamwork, and customer service
