About the Role
We are seeking a Civil Litigation Lawyer to join our team on a part-time or by-case basis. The ideal candidate has practical experience handling civil litigation matters in Ontario, with preferred experience in defamation-related cases, including libel, slander, reputation damage, online statements, social media disputes, and related claims.
This position is suitable for a lawyer who can independently manage litigation files, provide strategic legal advice, and support clients through different stages of the litigation process.
Responsibilities
- Handle civil litigation matters from intake to resolution
- Draft, review, and prepare pleadings, demand letters, motion materials, affidavits, settlement documents, and court correspondence
- Provide legal advice and strategy to clients on civil disputes
- Represent clients in negotiations, mediations, motions, and court appearances where required
- Manage defamation-related matters, including libel, slander, online publication, reputational harm, and related civil claims
- Communicate effectively with clients, opposing counsel, court staff, and internal team members
- Ensure all files are handled professionally, efficiently, and in compliance with applicable legal and ethical standards
Qualifications
- Licensed lawyer in good standing with the Law Society of Ontario
- Experience in civil litigation is required
- Experience with defamation, libel, slander, or reputation-related disputes is strongly preferred
- Strong legal drafting, research, and advocacy skills
- Ability to manage files independently
- Excellent communication, organizational, and time-management skills
- Professional, detail-oriented, and client-focused
- Mandarin or Cantonese language skills are an asset but not required
Pay: $200.00-$250.00 per hour
