Position Summary:
As an Underground Field Mechanic, you'll play a critical role in keeping Swick's underground drilling fleet operating safely and efficiently. You'll diagnose, repair, maintain, and rebuild specialized underground diamond drilling equipment while working alongside experienced operations and maintenance teams in a challenging underground mining environment.
This is a hands-on position for a skilled mechanic who enjoys troubleshooting complex hydraulic, electrical, diesel, and mechanical systems while helping maximize equipment reliability and production.
Key Responsibilities:
- Diagnose and repair underground diamond drilling equipment.
- Perform preventative, scheduled, and breakdown maintenance on drilling rigs and support equipment.
- Troubleshoot hydraulic, electrical, pneumatic, diesel, and mechanical systems.
- Complete field repairs efficiently to minimize equipment downtime.
- Assemble, install, rebuild, and overhaul mechanical components to manufacturer specifications.
- Read and interpret hydraulic schematics, electrical diagrams, technical drawings, and service manuals.
- Perform inspections to identify wear, damage, or potential failures before they impact production.
- Maintain accurate maintenance records, work orders, and parts usage.
- Assist with inventory control and parts management.
- Ensure all work is completed safely and in accordance with company and client standards.
- Maintain a clean, organized, and professional work environment.
- Collaborate with drill crews, supervisors, and operations personnel to maximize equipment performance.
- Participate in continuous improvement initiatives to enhance fleet reliability and efficiency.
Qualifications Required:
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Journeyperson Heavy Equipment Technician, Truck & Transport Technician, Industrial Mechanic (Millwright), or equivalent mechanical experience.
- Experience maintaining heavy equipment, mining equipment, or underground drilling equipment.
- Strong troubleshooting and diagnostic skills.
- Ability to read and interpret hydraulic, electrical, and mechanical schematics.
- Experience using diagnostic equipment along with hand and power tools.
- Valid Driver's Licence.
- Strong commitment to workplace safety.
- Ability to work independently in underground mining environments.
Preferred:
- Underground mining experience.
- Experience maintaining underground diamond drill rigs.
- Strong hydraulic troubleshooting experience.
- Diesel engine repair experience.
- Welding and fabrication experience.
- Experience with computerized maintenance management systems (CMMS).
