As a key member of the Maintenance team, the Class B Refrigeration Technician is responsible for the safe, reliable and efficient operation, monitoring and maintenance of the facility's refrigeration and related utility systems.
The successful candidate supports the ongoing operation of the factory and its equipment by ensuring refrigeration systems, ammonia systems, and other plant utilities are maintained and operated in accordance with applicable legislation, TSSA requirements, company standards and food safety requirements.
You are a dependable, self-directed and safety-conscious professional who is able to work rotating shifts in a manufacturing environment. You demonstrate strong troubleshooting skills, attention to detail and a sense of urgency when responding to equipment issues and operational requirements.
MAJOR DUTIES
1. Contribute to a safe, healthy and productive work environment while maintaining high food safety and quality standards.
2. Operate, monitor, test, maintain and log refrigeration systems and related equipment, including ammonia refrigeration systems, in accordance with operating procedures and applicable TSSA requirements.
3. Monitor, inspect and maintain refrigeration equipment and systems to ensure safe, efficient and reliable operation.
4. Monitor, test and record steam and boiler system requirements in accordance with established operating procedures and applicable regulations.
5. Perform troubleshooting, preventative maintenance and corrective repairs on refrigeration, utility and plant equipment.
6. Participate in plant equipment repairs, installations, modifications and commissioning activities as required.
7. Respond to oral and written work requests and complete corrective actions in a timely manner using the computerized maintenance management system (CMMS).
8. Liaise with contractors, regulatory authorities, inspection departments and other required stakeholders regarding corrective actions, inspections and legal or regulatory requirements.
9. Maintain accurate records, logs and documentation related to refrigeration, and other utility systems.
10. Comply with all Safety, Health, Environmental, Quality and Food Safety policies and procedures.
11. Perform other duties as assigned.
JOB SPECIFICATIONS
1. Must hold a valid Class B Refrigeration Operator certificate/licence or higher (Class A) recognized in Ontario.
2. Minimum of 2 years of related industrial refrigeration, utilities, maintenance or manufacturing experience.
3. Must have experience working with ammonia refrigeration and industrial cooling systems.
4. Self-directed and motivated team player who is open to new technology and demonstrates a sense of urgency and attention to detail.
5. Must maintain a full complement of personal/professional hand tools identified for the Food Safety program.
6. Able to communicate effectively with co-workers, Supervisors and other members.
7. Must have a full complement of personal/professional hand tools ID’d for Food Safety program
8. Must have knowledge of Technical Standards and Safety Authority (TSSA) requirements and applicable regulatory standards.
9. Ensure compliance with Quality and Food Safety requirements within the scope of the position.
WORKING CONDITIONS
1. Physical Effort
- Some heavy physical activities (lifting and reaching), walk/stand frequently, push/pull.
- Able to work shifts on 24 hours/ 6-day week
2. Physical Environment
- Exposure to noise (80-95 decibels) with PPE
- Exposure to moving mechanical components, various energies, wet and slippery conditions, and varying temperatures.
- Some exposure to ammonia vapour and chemicals.
3. Sensory - A high level of sensory attention is required.
4. Mental Stress - A moderate to high level of job stress may occur.
