Role Description
This is a flexible, part-time consulting opportunity ideal for a senior tax specialist who is currently employed at a CPA firm, boutique tax practice, or law firm and is interested in providing advisory support on a contract basis.
The successful candidate will work closely with our team on complex tax planning engagements and provide technical expertise for private corporations, shareholders, and family-owned businesses.
This role focuses exclusively on advisory and planning work. No bookkeeping, payroll, or routine compliance responsibilities are involved.
Key Responsibilities
- Assist with estate freezes and succession planning strategies
- Design and review Section 85 rollovers
- Support corporate reorganization transactions
- Advise on family trust planning and implementation
- Assist with pipeline planning and capital dividend planning
- Review purification transactions for Qualified Small Business Corporation (QSBC) purposes
- Provide shareholder and owner-manager tax planning advice
- Prepare and review technical tax memoranda
- Participate in client planning meetings
- Collaborate with legal counsel regarding implementation of tax plans
- Review legal documentation related to reorganizations and estate planning
- Analyze tax implications of corporate transactions and restructurings
Required Qualifications
- CPA, CGA, CMA, CA or Equivalent (Licensed in Canada)
- Completed or currently enrolled in the In-Depth Tax Course.
- Minimum of 5+ years’ experience at a CPA firm, boutique tax advisory practice, or tax law firm
- Experience advising owner-managed businesses and high-net-worth families
- Previous experience supporting legal implementation of tax planning strategies
- Strong knowledge of Canadian Income Tax Act provisions relating to private corporations
- Demonstrated experience with:
-Estate freezes
-Section 85 rollovers
-Family trusts
-Corporate reorganizations
-Pipeline planning
-Capital dividend planning
-Shareholder tax planning
-Succession planning
- Experience preparing technical tax research and memoranda
- Exceptional verbal oral and written communication skills
- Ability to work independently with minimal supervision
- High Attention to detail, problem solving and analytical skills
What we offer:
- Competitive hourly rate based on experience and qualifications
- Expected range: $125–$200 per hour
- Retainer arrangements may be considered for highly qualified candidates
Pay: $125.00-$200.00 per hour
