The Chief Imaging Technologist is responsible for ensuring the imaging facility operates efficiently through the supervision of technical staff and the coordination of administrative and operational functions. This role is structured to support a planned leadership transition; the successful candidate will initially work in a clinical technologist capacity to become familiar with Athleticare’s workflows, team, and standards, and will progressively assume Chief responsibilities over a defined onboarding period.
Duties and Responsibilities
- Direct and coordinates activities of the imaging department. Reviews work schedules and assign duties to workers to maintain patient flow and achieve production goals.
- Manage scheduling for all staff
- Review and approve timesheets
- Assist HR and the leadership in recruitment needs
- Oversees staff in operation of imaging equipment, evaluates accuracy and quality of images, and provides technical assistance.
- Demonstrates new techniques, equipment, and procedures to staff.
- Acts as the Quality Manager for the imaging department
- Oversee and monitor services provided to ensure they meet high standards
- Develop quality control standards
- Manage and revise the Quality Management System and facility policies and procedures
- Monitor and report on quality indicators in conjunction with the Imaging Medical Director
- Conduct regular inspections and statistical analysis to identify potential problems
- Communicate with staff to make improvements to clinic operations
- Prepare reports for the Imaging Medical Director
- Inspect and monitor imaging services to ensure quality standards are met
- Ensure compliance of policies and procedures with applicable legislation and regulations
- Train employees to meet quality standards in all areas
- Maintain all quality assurance and quality control records
- Assist with development and delivery of continuing education for clinic staff
- Teach, coach, and lead staff in development and monitoring of quality indicators and improvement initiatives
- Maintain knowledge of organization policies, procedures, and standards of care
- Acts as Radiation Safety Officer for the imaging department
- Implements and monitors radiation safety measures to ensure safety of patients and staff and compliance with government regulatory requirements.
- Ensure that established safety procedures are being followed and report any non-compliance to the Imaging Medical Director and Office Manager.
- Review the safety procedures periodically and update them to ensure optimum patient and operator safety.
- Instruct X-ray equipment operators and other personnel participating in X-ray procedures in proper radiation protection practices.
- Organize participation in a personnel radiation monitoring service.
- Ensure that all occupationally exposed persons wear personal dosimeters during radiological procedures or when occupational exposures are likely.
- Review, manage and maintain records of occupational exposures received by personnel.
- Investigate each known or suspected case of excessive or abnormal exposure to patients and staff to determine the cause and to take remedial steps to prevent its recurrence.
- Recommends personnel actions, such as performance evaluations, promotions, and disciplinary measures.
- May operate X-ray equipment to produce radiographs for the diagnosis by radiologists of disease or injury as needed.
- Assist with ensuring that the imaging facility operates within its budget.
- Assist with the maintenance of medical inventory within the imaging department.
Accountabilities
- Communicate with all technical staff in the imaging department on a
- daily basis, in addition to regular communication with the Imaging Medical Director and Office Manager.
- The Chief Technologist reports to the Imaging Medical Director and Office Manager
- All technical staff within the imaging department will report to the Chief Technologist.
Qualifications
Education
- Graduate of an accredited Medical Radiation Technologist program
- Successfully completed the Canadian Association of Medical Radiation Technologists registration examination
Licensure
- Licensed by the Alberta College of Medical Diagnostic and Therapeutic Technologists as a Medical Radiation Technologist (MRTR)
- Eligible for registration with the Canadian Association of Medical Radiation Technologists
Experience
- Minimum of 3 years of experience as a MRT, 5 years preferred
- 2 years of supervisory experience preferred
- Outstanding oral and written communication skills

Terms of Work
ZerOne believes in fair and competitive compensation rates for all its employees:
Full-time-0.8 FTE (32 hours per week)
- As a full-time staff member, they will be covered by ZerOne’s benefits program
- Hourly pay rates are competitive, based on AHS rates, and experience. To be discussed within the interview process. (Please provide current relevant letter of portability if applicable)
- Work schedule with vary based on physician schedules workdays from Monday through Sunday, 6:30 – 7:30.
- Work will be located on-site at West Edmonton Mall Phase 1 on the 2nd floor, in the ZerOne Athleticare Clinic.
