Job Summary
We are seeking a detail-oriented and organized Accounting Assistant to join our accounting team. The ideal candidate will support various accounting functions, including data entry, account reconciliation, and processing financial transactions using a range of accounting software. This role offers an excellent opportunity to develop your skills in accounting services and accounting operations within a dynamic environment. The position requires proficiency in multiple accounting platforms and strong mathematical and analytical skills to ensure accurate financial recordkeeping and reporting.
Responsibilities
- Assisting with accounts payable and receivable tasks.
- Basic understanding of invoicing, payment tracking, and financial record-keeping.
- Processing and reconciling invoices, payments, and receipts.
- Communicating with vendors, customers, and internal departments to resolve billing or payment discrepancies.
- Solid understanding of AP/AR processes.
- Processing incoming payments and updating records in accounting software.
- Maintaining accurate and up-to-date accounting records.
- Providing support in preparing for month-end and year-end closing activities.
- Assisting students and the Student Services team with day-to-day needs.
- Proficiency in accounting software (QuickBooks).
- Advance level proficiency in Microsoft Office tools, especially Excel and Outlook.
- Demonstrated ability to review, analyze, and resolve data entry or transaction errors.
- Other duties assigned by the management.
Qualifications
- Diploma or certificate in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, or a related field from a recognized institution.
- Minimum 2 years of accounting or bookkeeping experience, preferably in an educational institution.
- Proficiency in accounting software (e.g., Sage 50, QuickBooks, or similar ERP/accounting systems).
- Advanced knowledge of Microsoft Office, particularly Microsoft Excel.
- Strong understanding of Canadian accounting principles and bookkeeping practices.
- Knowledge of payroll processing, accounts payable, accounts receivable, bank reconciliations, and general ledger maintenance.
- Familiarity with Canadian employment standards, payroll regulations, and GST/PST requirements is an asset.
- Excellent organizational skills with strong attention to detail and accuracy.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills in English.
- Ability to prioritize multiple tasks, meet deadlines, and work independently with minimal supervision.
- Demonstrated integrity and ability to maintain confidentiality when handling financial and employee information.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to work collaboratively with faculty, staff, students, and external stakeholders.
