Manual Material Handler
Job Overview
· WTC Group is an industry leader in specialty grain and crop logistics in BC and across Canada. We are looking for reliable and hardworking manual material handlers to help unload, stage, and load various types of merchandise in a fast-paced work environment.
Job Responsibilities
- Unloading grains, merchandise, and a variety of other products from incoming trailers, containers, and rail equipment while maintaining accurate tallies
- Moving materials to and from storage areas by hand or using basic material handling equipment
- Properly loading floor loaded product from other containers or trailers as well as yard staging areas and securing it appropriately onto outbound loads.
- Maintaining inventory by identifying, labeling, and placing materials in stock; manually recording the location of staged inventory.
- Inspecting incoming and outgoing loads for damages and food safety standards to ensure the safety of materials before handling or shipping.
- Manual work required to check quality, condition, and that shipments match delivery paperwork as well as special handling, transportation, organic or weight specifications.
- Complying with all yard safety rules, PPE requirements (hi-vis vest, steel toes and gloves when necessary), guidelines and relevant legislation.
- Opening, closing, securing, and sealing container or trailer doors for safe handling.
- Other duties and responsibilities as assigned.
Skills, Abilities, and Qualifications
- High School Diploma or equivalent is required.
- Basic comprehension of English and the ability to understand and adhere to all safety policies is essential.
- Physical endurance and the ability to consistently lift heavy product, packages and boxes of up to 50 pounds.
- Ability to stand and walk for extended periods of time.
- Current or previous forklift or first aid certification is not required but will be considered an asset.
- Previous warehouse and transloading experience is preferred.
Work Environment
- Yard and/or warehouse work that may include indoor and outdoor duties in various climates, temperatures and changing weather conditions.
- Noise and vibration from warehouse machinery, railroad equipment, and/or heavy trucks and transport.
- Dust and dirt that may include grain particulate as well as organic and inorganic odors.
