Overview:
We are seeking an experienced, full-time Senior Environmental Specialist–Mining to join our team of professionals. The ideal candidate will have an education in environmental/biological sciences or environmental engineering with demonstrated experience in environmental assessment and regulatory management within the BC mining sector.
This position is primarily office based in one of our main offices such as North Vancouver, Prince George, Terrace, Chilliwack, Cranbrook, Penticton, Williams Lake, or Fort St. John, and remote placement may also be considered, depending on the candidate. Periodic travel can be expected for client meetings or field assignments.
As a subject matter expert, you will play a key role in providing strategic regulatory advice and support to mining clients during all stages of mining project life cycle (exploration, project development, operations, and care-and-maintenance), help lead a team of skilled professionals, in-training professionals, and technicians; and support a variety of other environmental projects across various market sectors and environmental disciplines. This position plays a critical role in our organizational growth and development strategy, and the ideal candidates will have strong leadership capabilities and extensive experience in managing field-based projects and integrating inputs from multi-disciplinary technical teams to support environmental assessments, regulatory applications, and management plans.

Job Responsibilities:
The responsibilities of a Senior Environmental Specialist–Mining will include, but not limited to:

Collaborating with multidisciplinary teams to integrate environmental considerations into project design, permitting, and delivery.

Preparing technical reports, proposals, monitoring summaries, and study designs.

Promoting and modeling a progressive safety culture and supporting the DWB/CRGL safety program.

Providing professional guidance to clients, stakeholders, and internal teams on best practices for fish/wildlife management and conservation.

Ensuring compliance with regulatory requirements, permits, and environmental plans, including spill response and re-vegetation.

Leading mining-related proposal writing and budget management to ensure the successful execution of projects.

Providing mentorship and goal-oriented coaching to junior team members to promote internal knowledge transfer and support the organization’s future-ready talent objectives.
Qualifications:

BSc, MSc, or PhD in Environmental Science, Natural Resource Management, Environmental Engineering, or a related discipline.

Professional designation as RPBio/PBiol, PAg, or PEng is an asset.

Minimum of eight (8) years relevant experience in environmental consulting and/or the mining sector.

Strong and effective relationship-building and networking skills, with the ability to cultivate and maintain relationships with clients, regulators, First Nations, and DWB/CRGL team members.

Proven project management and organizational skills to coordinate and support team members, manage client expectations, oversee project safety, budgets, and equipment.

Experience and enthusiasm for mentoring and training team members, with a commitment to supporting professional development.

Experience with environmental impact assessments (EIAs), particularly those focused on mining exploration and development.

Strong knowledge of British Colombia’s fish and wildlife species ecology and management.

Experience working with regulatory agencies and stakeholders, with a strong understanding of environmental legislation and regulations in BC to ensure legal compliance, identify opportunities for improvement, and develop strategic solutions.

Possession of a valid Class 5 driver’s license.

Legally authorized to work in Canada.
Compensation:

The pay range for this position is $50- $80 per hour; pay will be commensurate with experience and qualifications.
