Job Summary
We are seeking a detail-oriented and professional Painter Helper to join our Electrostatic Painting team. The ideal candidate will be responsible for preparing surfaces, masking areas needing protection, and assisting the foreman with anything they need during the application process. This role requires some painting prep and masking knowledge and familiarity with on-site safety procedures. The Painter Helper will maintain a high level of professionalism, and will work closely with the Painting Foreman to support efficient production processes and maintain quality standards.
Responsibilities
- Prepare surfaces by cleaning, sanding, and masking to ensure proper adhesion of paint or coatings
- Demonstrate an understanding of the methods required to prepare an item for painting, such as proper sanding technique and washing the surface well post-sand
- Utilize hand tools and power tools to complete surface preparation tasks efficiently and accurately
- Demonstrate an understanding of procedures and materials required (eg. proper tape type and usage) to mask surfaces well
- Follow safety protocols including the use of personal protective equipment (PPE) and proper handling of hazardous materials
- Perform personal quality inspections to ensure your work meets expected preparation standards and fix as necessary
- Maintain a clean work environment and properly store tools and materials
- Communicate progress and check-in with your foreman and team frequently throughout a shift
- Demonstrate an understanding of proper de-masking procedures, taking extra care to ensure fresh paint is not harmed in the de-masking process
- Maintain a high level of professionalism while on site, both in how you work and how you present yourself
Qualifications
- Proven experience in industrial painting preferred
- Familiarity with assembly and use of hand tools and power tools an asset
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team in a fast-paced, quality-focused environment
- Knowledge of safety procedures related to working with paints, chemicals, and hand/power tools (eg. sanders) an asset
- Previous experience in a construction-based field unrelated to painting will also be considered
- Must be available to work evenings. Open availability (daytime and evening) is considered a huge asset
- Must be able to reliably commute to our shop in Surrey
- Must have a reliable, working phone with a data plan as all correspondence regarding scheduling and timekeeping is done through phone apps
- Class 5 drivers license not required, but considered an asset that will be heavily weighted in the candidate selection process
Other Key Things to Note
- You must provide your own basic PPE (CSA approved hard hat, safety vest, and 6" steel toed boots) prior to arriving for your first shift. A respirator will be provided for you if you do not already own one
- Most work is done on storefronts and in apartment/office buildings, requiring most of the work to be done after hours. **YOU MUST BE ABLE TO WORK EVENINGS AND SOME LATE NIGHTS.** There are some day shifts available as well
- You will meet your crew at our shop located in Surrey prior to heading to site everyday, unless otherwise discussed

Pay: From $22.00 per hour
