Overview
We are seeking a knowledgeable and dedicated Fishmonger to join our team. The ideal candidate will have experience in the food industry, particularly in fish and seafood handling, and a passion for providing excellent customer service. This role involves preparing, packaging, and selling fresh seafood products while ensuring the highest standards of food safety and quality. The Fishmonger will play a vital role in delivering a positive shopping experience for our customers and maintaining the integrity of our seafood offerings.
Responsibilities
- Handle and prepare fresh fish and seafood products with precision and care
- Perform meat cutting, filleting, and portioning according to customer specifications
- Maintain proper food safety and sanitation standards throughout all processes
- Package seafood products efficiently for retail display or take-out orders
- Assist customers by providing knowledgeable recommendations and answering questions about seafood options
- Ensure all displays are clean, organized, and visually appealing
- Follow proper food handling procedures to prevent contamination or spoilage
- Support inventory management by receiving deliveries and rotating stock as needed
- Maintain a clean and safe work environment in compliance with health regulations
Qualifications
- Previous experience in the food industry, especially in fishmongering, butchery, or kitchen environments preferred
- Knowledge of food preparation techniques, meat cutting, and seafood handling best practices
- Strong understanding of food safety standards and sanitation protocols
- Excellent customer service skills with an ability to communicate effectively with shoppers
- Ability to work efficiently in a fast-paced environment while maintaining attention to detail
- Experience with packaging seafood products for retail sale is a plus
- Kitchen experience or background in food handling is desirable but not required
- Ability to stand for extended periods and lift moderate loads as needed
