Key Responsibilities:

Student Coaching: Provide direct reinforcement of UEB code to students.

Tactile Literacy: Assist students in developing "tactual discrimination"—the ability to feel and identify fine details in tactile graphics and braille cells.

Technology Instruction: Guide students in the use of Refreshable Braille Displays, Braille Note-takers (e.g., BrailleNote Touch or Braille Sense), and Perkins Braillers.

Progress Monitoring: Observe student progress in braille reading speed and accuracy, providing regular feedback to the TVI.
Required Skills & Qualifications:

UEB Mastery: Demonstrated proficiency in the Unified English Braille code.

Instructional Aptitude: Ability to break down complex tactile concepts into age-appropriate steps for learners.

Patience & Empathy: Strong interpersonal skills for working with students who may have multiple disabilities or varying levels of frustration with literacy.
Preferred Experience:

Understanding of the Expanded Core Curriculum (ECC) for blind and visually impaired students.
The successful candidate will be working in a team of Support Staff to support the learning of a variety of students within the program. Collaboration, compassion, communication and a willingness to take on new challenges are required skills for this position.
