The Director of Finance – GRP / R3 Segments is a senior financial leader responsible for driving financial performance, governance, and strategic decision support across the Grocery, Retail, Processor and R3 segments within Bunzl Canada. This role partners closely with segment leadership, operations, and other non-functional departments to deliver strong financial results, disciplined capital management, and scalable financial processes.
The Director of Finance provides leadership across accounting, financial reporting, planning & forecasting, internal controls, and business analytics, ensuring alignment with Bunzl Canada and Bunzl Group financial standards while enabling growth, margin improvement, and operational excellence.
This role is the senior finance authority for the GRP/R3 segments and is accountable for both financial stewardship and value creation.
Key Responsibilities
Financial Leadership & Strategy
- Act as a trusted business partner to Segment Leaders providing financial insight to drive profitable growth and margin improvement.
- Lead annual budgeting, monthly forecasting, and long-range planning processes for GRP/R3 segments.
- Support strategic initiatives including pricing, category management, customer profitability, and cost-to-serve optimization.
- Evaluate capital expenditures, and strategic projects with disciplined financial analysis.
- Financial Reporting & Governance
- Oversee timely and accurate monthly, quarterly, and annual financial reporting in compliance with IFRS, Bunzl Group policies, and internal controls standards.
- Ensure strong balance sheet management, including working capital optimization (inventory, AR, AP).
- Review and challenge financial results, trends, risks, and opportunities with senior leadership.
- Maintain effective internal controls over financial reporting and operational finance processes, building on existing control frameworks.
Operational Finance & Performance Management
- Drive financial transparency and accountability across warehouse, distribution, and sales operations.
- Partner with Operations to analyze productivity, logistics costs, freight, labour, and overhead absorption.
- Lead development of KPIs, dashboards, and performance reviews to support data-driven decision making.
- Provide actionable insights on pricing discipline, customer mix, rebates, and supplier programs.
- Team Leadership & Development
- Lead, coach, and develop the GRP/R3 finance leadership team, including fostering a high-performance and continuous improvement culture.
- Set clear expectations, develop succession plans, and actively mentor high-potential finance talent.
- Systems, Process & Change Leadership
- Champion continuous improvement in finance processes, month-end close, forecasting accuracy, and reporting efficiency.
- Partner with IT and Finance Transformation teams on ERP, reporting tools, and automation initiatives.
Qualifications & Experience
- Bachelor’s degree in accounting, Finance, or Business Administration (required)
- CPA designation (required)
- 12+ years of progressive finance experience in a large organization (preferred)
- Minimum 5–7 years in a senior finance leadership role (Director, Senior Controller, or equivalent)
- Strong background in financial reporting, planning & forecasting, and business partnering
- Experience working in a public company or large multinational environment (preferred)
- Deep understanding of IFRS, internal controls, and financial governance
- Strong analytical, commercial, and strategic thinking capability
- Proven ability to influence senior stakeholders and challenge constructively
- Experience with large ERP and reporting platforms (AS400, Hyperion) is an asset
- Exceptional leadership, communication, and change management skills
- Comfortable operating in a fast-paced, performance-driven environment
- Hands-on leader who balances strategic direction with execution discipline
